I've had an itch in my throat for almost a week now. I've scratched and clawed from the outside to no avail. My doctor says it's allergies.
He's a good doctor; I've been seeing him for a while and he checks in every couple days to make sure I'm taking the large, blue capsules he prescribed. Seems like overkill to me, but he said that I should feel better in a week.
But I'm not feeling better, I'm feeling worse.
I keep downing glass after glass of water to make the symptoms subside for a few minutes. Yet it starts again every time. I went to take my pill this morning, but it fell and broke open on the floor. I gagged as small black insects scurried between the grouted tiles - dispersing into the cracks.
Worried that they may have contaminated my medicine, I began cracking them open.
Crack - bugs. Crack - bugs. Crack - more bugs.
All of them - bugs. Every single one.
The phone rang as I brushed the little beetle-like insects into the sink - it was my doctor.
"Doctor! There's bugs in my medicine, I need a new batch." I growled through my irritated throat.
There was a silence before the phone crackled to life. When he spoke, it was in a hoarse voice - different than usual.
"... I'm sorry, what's the problem? Do you need a larger dose?" he chuckled.
His laugh faded as I dropped the phone and ran to the bathroom. Scratching at my throat with both hands - searching for my glass of water.
I've had an itching in my throat for a week now; I had hoped it was just allergies. But I've come to realize it only started getting worse after I began my prescription.
