Night Raid

While we were eating near the campfire, I kept staring at Lara, who kept avoiding my gaze when she looked up. Lara has been reading a book on hand while trying to prevent me from speaking to her.

Jonah: "Save a man's stomach, save his soul." he said while holding his stomach, indicating his satisfaction with the food we made. "It seemed that your culinary skills hadn't degraded one bit, Joseph." when I heard his words, I just gave him a smile on my face.

Dr. Whitman: "Finally, a little positivity!" he said while looking over the group. "Once Reyes finishes the boat, we will be back in civilization in no time… and what a tale we'll have to tell," he said while having an excited look on his face.

I looked at this and signed right afterward, knowing full well some people who will try to silence him for trying to put these things on TV. I looked at Lara, who noticed my indifference but tried to avoid my eyes by quickly going back to her book.

Reyes: "we can take the boat out at high tide." she said while looking at everyone. When Lara heard this, she quickly denied Reyes's plan.

Lara: "no, we can't..." she said while looking disappointedly at Reyes.

Reyes: "Don't start this bullshit again, Lara!" she said while looking over at Lara annoyingly.

Sam: "Lara is not the only one who thinks we're trapped, Reyes," she said sternly at Reyes. "Mathias may be insane, but he is sure about the island trapping us here… I saw it in his eyes."

Dr. Whitman: "He thinks resurrecting Himiko is the key to getting us out of this island."

Lara: "these storms aren't natural. We have to face that."

Joseph: "Lara is right; whatever is controlling this weather doesn't want people to leave this island." I said while looking at Lara, who didn't seem to look at my way. She then stood up and grabbed her weapons off the ground about to leave.

Sam: "Where are you going." Sam said while grabbing Lara's arms. Lara just smiled at Sam and answered her question.

Lara: "There are old ruins beneath that old base in the cliff." she said while letting go of Sam's hands. "Something in there led them to believe they could control the storms. I got to find out what they discovered."When I heard she was going to go alone, I painfully stood up to go with Lara.

Joseph: "Lara, I will be coming with you," I said while trying to walk. But before I could painfully walk, my leg started hurting, and I was going to fall when suddenly Lara caught my body. While she was hugging my body, she gave me a guilty smile on her face.

Lara: "I don't want to lose more people because of me, Joseph, you're staying here with the rest." she said while making me sit back down on the tree I sat on.

Reyes: "Once we're ready to leave, we're leaving." she said while not looking at Lara's face. "Whether you're back or not."

Sam: "I will not leave without you," She said while glaring at Reyes. Lara was about to leave when suddenly I grabbed her hands to stop her from going. She just looked at me and gave a sad smile before forcibly taking her hands back from my grasp.

Lara: "Don't worry, I will be back as soon as possible." she said before walking off towards the cliffside. While looking at her leaving figure, my chest felt a stinging sensation. I looked at my chest and saw that there was blood seeping through the bandage. Jonah saw that I needed my bandages changed and went towards me.

Jonah: "Man, all your small wounds are healed, but the wounds you got from Lara doesn't seem to heal at all." he said while checking my wounds on my chest. When I heard his words, I had a confused look on my face as I know my wounds heal faster than most people. I decided to let it go as it might be infected by something, that is the only reason that it is slowly recovering.

After cleaning my wounds, Jonah made me lay down and forced me to sleep. I begrudgingly slept as I knew that I needed to heal faster. I am looking at the dark starry sky as I let my heavy eyelids close on their own.

I don't know how long I was asleep for, but suddenly I heard multiple footsteps coming our way. I quickly got up, disregarding the searing pain that is screaming at me for standing up quickly. I then looked around and saw my gun lay near me.

I then grabbed the gun and checked my ammo count, and saw that I have seven bullets left, which made my day. I wanted to curse out loud for my ammo count. I then looked around and saw that Jonah was still awake, holding his weapon.

I was going to warn him of danger heading our way when suddenly I saw an arrow leading to Jonah's back. I quickly tackled Jonah, which made the arrow miss its target. Jonah saw the arrow and yelled at everyone asleep.

Jonah: "Hey, guys, you need to wake up; we've got company here!" Yelled while cooking his shotgun to shoot at the incoming enemies. When everyone heard Jonah, they hid behind cover, ready to fight the incoming enemies.

Sam: "we need to tell Lara that we have a problem here." she said while holding onto Roth's gun.

Reyes: "we can't seem to reach Lara," she said while putting down the radio on hand. Then she grabbed her gun off her hip. All of a sudden, there was an arrow heading my way. When I saw that it's coming towards me, I thought of ducking for cover but changed my mind when I saw the tip of the arrow carrying what looked like an explosive tip arrow.

I ran for my life as it hit the ground near my previous position. I got far away from my last location, but it didn't stop the blast waves from pushing me onto the ground. When I am on the ground, I disregard my body screaming in pain and start rolling away and taking cover.

The shootout started when people suddenly ran towards us with guns blazing, disregarding their lives. I didn't shoot them as I would just waste ammo on them. I just let Jonah shoot them and waited for a free weapon that I could use from the enemies.

All of a sudden, Reyes radio suddenly went through Lara. Reyes then started talking to Lara to ask for back up.

Reyes: "Lara, where the hell are you?" she said while waiting for Lara's reply on the radio.

Lara: "Oh no. what happening." she said through the radio with a worried tone in her voice.

Reyes: "were under attack! We need help!" she said while putting down the radio as someone was sneaking up behind her. She successfully killed the man who sneaked up behind her, but she is wounded on her shoulders.

Jonah threw an assault rifle with a bayonet on the tip of the barrel. I caught the gun and started shooting the enemies down. I kept mowing them down from my cover until I ran out of ammo.

When I saw that I ran out of bullets, I then painfully charged towards a nearby enemy and used my bayonet on my gun to stab the man and started pushing his dead body towards the rest of the enemies.

It didn't take long when all the enemies were dead. Thinking that they were killed, I was going to go back to the docks to regroup, but suddenly a man was running behind me ready to chop off my head.

I dodged his swing and grasped his arm mid-swing. I then performed a throw in front of me and put him down on the ground. I then finished him off with my last bullet in my gun. I looked at my weapon and just sighed.

Joseph: "welp better get a new gun then," I said while putting back my gun into my holster. I looked at myself and saw that my chest was bleeding again. I disregarded it and went back towards the boat. When I reached the docks, I saw Lara and rest talking to each other.

Lara noticed me and ran towards me and started checking my wounds on my chest. She still has a guilty look on her face.

Joseph: "Don't worry about me, I am perfectly fine, Lara," I said while giving her a reassuring smile while my body screamed in pain. Lara looked at me with a worried look on her face. I then looked around to find something to distract her. I then noticed two people are missing. "Lara, where Sam and Dr.Whitman," I saw Lara's sad look and could guess what happened to the two people.

Lara: "Dr. Whitman had taken Sam back to Mathias" when I heard her words, I only signed and hugged her and gave her reassuring words to lift her mood.

Joseph: "Don't worry, we will get back, Sam" we didn't get to hug a bit longer as Lara pushed me away. I looked at my empty arms and felt another stinging sensation on my chest again. I shook my head and asked Lara a question. "Do you have any idea where they would take Sam." Reyes, Jonah, and Lara nodded, and then Lara showed us a map we need to follow.

Lara: "Mathais has taken Sam to the ritual chamber, we just need to follow the river up, and we will meet up with them." when I saw the plan, I just nodded.

Joseph: "then we shouldn't waste time; we need to go now…"
