What Am I [Chapter 56]

I stand still, glaring at my thorn tattoo. Feeling a strange wave of emotions come and go, like the tide of the ocean coming in with heavy force, and dragging away equally as fast. My attention turns upon hearing footsteps in the mud behind me. The sound of rain being interrupted by the sound of heavy steps.

I look back and see Entren staring at me.

"Damn, kid. You did some work on this town."

He mumbles. I slowly look around and notice crushed buildings and dead bodies of people who were outside when I lost control. I feel another wave of regret, but it instantly vanishes. I clench my left fist and sheathe HexCalibur. I start to walk away, but hear Elith speaks up behind me.

"Do you wish to know what you are?"

I quickly spin around and stare at her. I feel my heart pound and throb for seemingly no reason. I take a deep breath and nod. She walks towards me slowly, the rain rolling down her face and body. She walks up and stares into my eyes.

"I can sense something very demonic within you, but you yourself are not a demon. The way I see it, a demon has leant you a vast amount of power. For what reason, I do not know."

I feel my heart pound heavily upon hearing her words.

No, this power was given to me by the Maker? There's no way a demon is the Maker, I'll never believe it.

I shake my head and speak up.

"This power I have, I don't feel as though it came from a demon."

Elith almost laughs at my words.

"So you believe that, whatever angel or other good being gave you this power, gave it to you to exact some judgement on the world? Or only your foes? Whoever you condemn to death is bound to die by your hand."

I nod in response.

"I believe the Maker has decided me to be the: judge, jury, and executioner. I will become the strongest alive, and cleanse this world of evil."

Elith stares at me for a moment before sighing and turning her back to me.

"It doesn't matter what you, "Believe". The truth of the matter is, there is something highly demonic inside you. From one demon to another, that power can be hard to subdue and make your own. It will take its toll on you, slowly consuming all your hopes and dreams. If you let it defeat you, not even your soul will remain. I'd hate for such power to go to waste."

With those words, she teleports away. Entren stares at me for a moment then scratches his head, which is very wet due to the rain.

"I'd listen to the woman, she's got us beat in the age category by almost six hundred years."

Entren mumbles as he teleports away as well. I sit in silence, only the sound and smell of the rain around me filling senses.

"A demon?"

I stare at the mud and water infront of me. Leaning closer to see a dirty and disfigured reflection of myself in the water.

I don't want to think about it.

I quickly stand up straight and glare into the distance.

"I need to find Vex and the others."

I dash towards the outskirts of the town, kicking up a huge wave of mud and water. Each step splashes everywhere, dirtying my clothes and gear. The rain washes it slightly while running, but not much.

I dash around the outskirts of the town looking for them, but can't seem to find them.

"Where would they be?"

I mumble to myself while looking around. I slide on the mud to a stop near a large tree. I think for a moment, contemplating where they would go.

"No, the best choice would be to wait for Vex to come back."

I quickly get back to town and set up some broken boards on the ground to make a small shelter, so I won't be sitting in the ever thickening mud. I wait for almost ten more minutes before Vex appears.

He looks around at the destroyed town and almost seems saddened. He stands still for several minutes, observing the remains of the town. He looks back to me coldly and I look up to him. Our eyes lock and we stare at each other in silence. He quickly spins around and grabs my wrist, then teleports us away.

We appear in small wood house and I almost fall back. I manage to catch myself then look around. I see everyone in an adjacent room. The painful sobs and groans of Azeroth echo through the house. I slowly stand up and walk into the room, lightly touching Azeroth and pulling him back.

I step forward and look at Blankk. He's limp on the bed and has a cover over where his head would be. Warren sighs deeply.

"I managed to stop the bleeding to not cause a mess, but resurrection is beyond any of our capabilities."

Warren pats my shoulder lightly, but still cracks the floorboards beneath me.

"Right, still not used to this strength."

I close my eyes and think for a moment, then quickly speak up.

"The Chosen. When we were in the meeting for the X-Class dungeon, they said a few of their people has resurrection abilities. I say we go back to Merlin and demand to know where they are."

I say calmly, feeling a heavy since of regret and self disgust from being so calm.

What's wrong with me? Why do I feel so normal? A comrade and friend has died, but I feel nothing. I can still think rationally.

I look back to see everyone staring at me. Carrina speaks up.

"Wouldn't Merlin know how to revive him?"

I shake my head.

"He may, but we won't know until we get there. Either way, we will bring Blankk back."

I turn around and scan the room.

"Where is Mia?"

Carrina shakes her head.

"She's outside, I didn't want her seeing any more death. It doesn't feel right for someone her age seeing so much pain and anguish."
