A Mission [Chapter 3]

"Alright, each of you have committed several crimes or are here by whatever fucking reasoning your crazy mind deems appropriate. Let's talk about why you're all here, to kill someone."

The man says as the guy with the bunny mask steps towards him.

"First let's tell our names. I already know that the drunk one is Evan Black."

He says while looking at the man with the paper bag on his head. Evan gives a thumbs up then drops his arm back down. He speaks up again.

"I'm Devon Slade. Now, everyone else, please introduce yourselves."

He says as the man with plain clothes steps forward.

"My name is Miran."

He says clearly and coldly as the guy reading a book speaks up.

"Ven Harux, not a pleasure."

Next up is the guy with fox-ear headphones.

"Alex Skyborn, uwu."

We all look to him in disgust and confusion, even Ven lowers his book.

"Oh god, I have to work with him?"

Ven asks, almost sadly. They all look to me last.

"I'm Everyn Dominic. I like killing."

I say proudly as Devon sighs.

"So we consist of: A drunk, edgelord, antisocial guy, weaboo, ex military, and."

He pauses and looks at Miran.

"Really not sure what to think of you."

He mumbles, the government official clearing his throat.

"Ahem, now that you're all acquainted. Let's talk about your target. Maven Gor."

He speaks loudly and putting emphasis on the man's last name, obviously signaling others. As my hunch expected, 2 guards walk in with a folder. The official quickly opens the folder and places it on a table. As we all walk over to it, we all see a man with short pointed black hair and a rough black beard.

"He looks like that one actor, Karl Rural."

Ven says quietly as I nod in agreeance. The official lights another cigarette.

Damn this guy smokes alot. Bad habits.

I think while watching him.

"He was ex-military, rank of colonel. He vanished without a trace with knowledge of classified projects."

He says, Devon speaks up.

"I'm assuming 'Project 21' is classified?"

He asks, the official nodding.

"Correct, we will give you each something to assist in the field. You are the beta test for  when we give the gear to our real soldiers, but we'll get to that later. We want you all to track this guy down and kill him. If he's leaked intel, it'll also be your job to kill anyone who knows."

He steps back and looks to us.

"Do you understand the mission?"

He asks, all of us nodding slightly, except Evan. Evan gives a thumbs up, still not having sat up. Ven speaks up.

"So what intel will you provide for us to find this guy?"

He asks, the official smiling strangely.

"None, just where he frequented when he was still in the military."

We all quickly look to him and stare at him.

"Wait, won't that make it almost impossible to find him?!"

Miran yells as Ven shakes his head.

"I have some....connections."

His brief pause causes suspicion in my mind.

What does he mean? He has connections? Like drug dealers or something?

I think as he yawns and pops his neck.

"I think we'll be fine."

Ven says as I sigh and nod. The official laughs and takes another puff of his cigarette.

"Alright, then let us go ahead and get the gear on you."

He says as he waves for us to follow him. After several minutes of walking behind him, I see 5 guards in front of a door ahead of us. The official waves and puts each of his fingers on different scanners. I keep an eye on the guards, who are each heavily armored and armed.

As the doors slides open, we see a large room with bars over the windows.

"This is a strange room to be in an insane asylum."

I mumble as we all walk in. We see 8 strange pieces of jewelry on a table in front of us.

"These are 'Accelerators'."

The man says as we all look at them. Before any of us can speak up he lifts one and tosses it towards us. I start to catch it, but Devon grabs it first.

"And what does it do?"

He asks as the official smiles.

"I won't pretend to know what the boys in the lab sent us. All I was told was that it heightens your abilties and skills, for a price. How I understand it, is that it drains blood from your body and cycles a chemical into it. It then pumps that modified blood back into your body.

We all stare at him before I crack up laughing.

"You've gotta be shitting me. That sounds like something stupid from an anime or some game!"

I shout as the official nods. Ven speaks up.

"That sounds horribly unsanitary. And you are one hundred percent sure this won't hurt us?"

The official laughs at Ven's words and shakes his head.

"No, out of the five other people we let wear these, four of them died. If the chemical rejects your body, that's it for you."

He says with a sick smile. I grit my teeth and clench my fist.

"And what if we refuse to wear it?"

I ask as I hear a click behind me, a full auto rifle having the safety turn off. I look back to see the five guards staring at us with their weapons up. Devon quickly puts the bracelet on, strange lights and circles lighting up with the color red. He grits his teeth and falls to the floor.

"Alright, next."

The official says as he points to the table.

"You have ten seconds to put it on, or else you die. The bracelet is your only chance of living."

He says smugly, almost enjoying the mind games he's playing. We all step forward and put the bracelets on. I feel several sharp pains in my right wrist as it locks down.

I see everyone reacting painfully, except Evan and Miran.

Damnit, am I going to die due to some bullshit like this? Eh, whatever. Was planning on dying anyway I guess.

I think, the pain instantly stopping.

"Oh that wasn't that ba-."

The sharp pain returns, I can feel liquid pumping into my body. It feels as though lava is flowing through my veins as I drop to my hands and knees amd feel tears welling up.

Fuck, fuck, fuck, why does this hurt so bad!

I think as I sit in pain for several minutes. When the pain dissipates, I see everyone slowly standing up. I see Miran completely collapsed to the ground, but Evan is still standing.

"Damn, five of you survived. Really beat the odds, maybe you do have a chance in hell of completing this mission."

The official says as he laughs hardily.

This man, he's toying with my life. If it comes to it, I'll kill him myself. I'm only doing this for the reward of being able to live without anyone bothering me.

I think as I stand up and take a deep breath. The official smiles and waves for the guards to step back.

"Alright, let's get started."
