Chpater 6: Golden Eyes

Basics are required and indispensable. They are fundamental in everything and they are the foundation in every subject. That is what Dr. Lon, a self-proclaimed scientist, with no Ph.D. or any certificates yet, is doing. He is doing research in his own discretion in his room.

History books, ancient language dictionaries, and anomalous records are scattered in his newly bought long work table. He was trying to understand the other sections of his Jirhen.

Lon is thankful for Nana. He still couldn't move that fast. Any rigorous movement will make his injury open when it is healing. It will cost more money for the home-based treatment Nana applies. That will be not good because the portion for his research materials will be affected.

Regardless, doctors would be surprised because, after only 15 days of rest, he could now walk. That is unbelievable unless the same injured person uses costly medicinal procedures to be fully healthy in three to five days.

The healing factor he relied on is the accumulated power of the formation he set up. The sad part is that he is inefficient in applying that energy to heal his wound. Resulting in high amounts of energy loss.

Still, he couldn't do experiments that will hurt his body. The flesh is already regenerating and it would cause more trouble if he did anything. The reason why he is studying like a proper school student.

Randomness is the specialty of the Jirhen. Some could be said it is a lot worse than number generators for a reason. It is rarer to see a Jirhen containing a set of knowledge that completely compliments each other. One example is the mighty warrior Jerald of the Hiul galaxy 2,500 years ago. His whole Jirhen is only composed of fighting knowledge. It only recorded skills of fighting, ways of disabling opponents, and effective killing methods for enemies.

The same couldn't be said to Lon. It is true that his Jirhen is primarily filled with information about magic. But the issue lies in the level of the magic and their classification. Except for 'Introduction To Soul Studies', all of the others are a higher tiered level of knowledge. There were no basics at all.

The biggest downside is that most of the sections found inside are rituals, ceremonies, or summoning methods. The first three things he already tried out are 'Reanimation Of The Deceased: Final Revision By Uila', 'Blood Harvester' and 'Extreme Yin, Yang Formation'. The reanimation book is a large encyclopedia that clearly tells about one undead, the zombie. There is so many rituals there to create a large variety of zombies, modify them to look humans, and even preserve their bodies.

This is the same one Lon used to create the right adjustment to some aspect of Nana's body.

There are only a few that clearly teaches him about magic spells.

'Introduction To The World Of Mysticism' only tackles the general outlook for everything. Although it explains the function of souls and the purpose of magic, there was nothing that explains how they actually work. The materials inside are more like a philosophy class instead of precalculus, which is the thing he needed.

Hence, Lon is deciphering carefully and thoroughly for the past ten days. There could be some basic concepts hidden in those unknown texts that no one can understand.

'This is getting nowhere'

He has been working non-stop to analyze the cryptic words on his Jirhen. His progress is slow because some of the words there are totally unknown. Even the usage of galactic internet isn't any good because no one really knows them. Despite that, he was finally able to read some materials he could use as a reference for future projects.

'Creation Of Basic Alchemy Magic Circles'

'Learn How To Summon A Servant!'

'Trivia About Magic Plants'

"I think I will just laze around for now."

It was time to take some rest now. Inadequate rest will slow down his recovery and he wouldn't like that. The corpse puppets are still out there, growing stronger for each passing second. Although he placed all of them in secluded locations, it will be catastrophic if someone else found them.

This reminded him to recover faster so that he could make a crude, experimental imitation of an artifact he recently planned.

"I need to clear my mind."

Lon stretched his arms, picked up a copy of his house keys, and headed to the door. Fresh air is a great ingredient to placate his tangled sanity.

...

The bright light of the sun is setting on the horizon. In a large park, children are playing with each other, their parents gossiping with each other, and the elderly sharing their glorious days with each other.

The time is 15:34 in the afternoon. It is a typical day in a huge park. Students relaxing with their friends on the green patches of grass. Young and single aunts that enjoyed the time practicing yoga. And the street vendors that sell food or accessories to the people that pass by.

This is not the place where the highest degree of technology is applied but a park that is peaceful enough for relaxation.

That is the thought of Lon as he lazily sat on the park bench. People would look at him then quickly scurry away. All of them are staring at the person beside him.

A height of 1.8 meters and a buff muscular body, they will surely stare at him. The problem is that from top to bottom, there is clothing to cover him.

A big hat to hide his head, thick dark sunglasses to hide the paranormal red eyes, long thick coat that covers his whole torso and upper legs, winter gloves, big shoes, pair of black socks, and long leggings to completely hide his body.

The weather is only starting to get chilly. Summer is over and autumn is arriving. It isn't that cold yet but this man is already on his winter getup.

Thus, their confusion is understandable. This attracted the attention of the masses and they pay little to no heed to him.

The disguise is okay so far. Lon would feel insecure if this thing is not in his field of sight. His luck is not so high and admiringly dashing that there won't be a chance of certain things occurring.

Just look at his luck when a stray light rays hit his side. The ensuing pain to make out alive is a bad memory for him. Yet a great teacher to him that thought him a great lesson.

Don't be an idiot and be involved in any sort of mafia.

At that moment, lady luck seemed disgusted about him as another problem leaped to his face.

A girl in a student uniform approached him. Schools in the territory of the Natilian empire are obliged to have their students wore a blue and black striped tie with the symbol of the empire below the school insignia. That is the best and certified indication that someone is a student.

Her fierce long red hair swayed in the air. The girl came from somewhere in the park. She went in front of them then carefully inspected both of them.

The golden iris of her eyes dilated when she looked at the big man. Her index finger pointed daringly at Lon and began shouting.

"How dare you do this to the dead! You insolent man!"

Her dialogue grabbed the nearby people's focus on the trio. This is unexpected for Lon as he was daydreaming about something else. More importantly, is she guessing or she already knows?

"Lady, what are you talking about?", he groggily replied. The best course of action in this situation is to act like an innocent person.

"He's just my friend. A one of a kind introvert that hates talking to people and the out-"

"Silence! You're lying through your teeth! This man is obviously dead!"

In the midst of his explanation, he was cut off by the girl. Lon was starting to get mad at her. This kid that radiates youthfulness is annoying.

"Well, well, young miss, I think you are mistaken there. This guy's name is Roberto. He is alive and well."

His voice is loud enough to be heard by the others.

"It is bad to accuse someone in any nonsensical subject."

That was all a pure lie. Lon didn't even know what's the person's name. He just found him dead in the back alleys of the city just like Nana. But his excuse is somewhat believable to some people.

The people around them became interested in this charade. At one side is a fabulous, scion red-haired lady going against a pair of weirdos, one in winter clothes and the other one wears cheap plain clothes.

"Really? If he is not dead then I want to hear his voice!"

"Mmmmm!"

The deep and loud groan of an adult man surprised her and people observing the situation. While Lon is having another headache.

'Hehe, this fucker!'

His orders are very simple. That is to make a noise on cue. However, there are technical difficulties that needed immediate intervention. The pre-set commands he placed back then is all about external stimuli.

If there is a presence that is threatening the master, return at once.

Run or walk based on the master's orders.

Kill anyone in the most efficient way based on the master's orders.

And a lot more complex ones. This isn't the same as ordering it to punch something alive until it is dead. This is a chain of command he is constructing. It is recommended, according to the book, to have at least four months of training and experience in order for it to easily work.

To make it worse, moving certain muscles inside a dead body is dangerous for his level. The concentration he currently has is not on par on how much is needed. This is the reason he was sweating buckets and the girl to be puzzled.

Hikari has encountered evil entities before and her instincts were never wrong. This person is certainly dabbling in the dark arts and beside him is his own creation.

"Huh, could I be really mistaken?" She was shocked at that instance. That was the voice of a person and not some kind of unholy creature.

Her doubt and the quick results disinterested them, especially the nearby students. They all thought they could possibly glimpse a peek in the supernatural world. Alas, their hopes were crushed in the end.

"If nothing else then, have a nice day, lady.", with that the two of them shakingly stood up. Even though it is painful for Lon, he still specifically ordered for the puppet to do the same as him. He decided to leave before his cover is blown by her.

"Man, my legs feel wobbly. Yours too, right?"

The response was a slight nod to answer his question. This confused Hikari because the presence of death lingered around that big man yet the same couldn't be said to the other person. They were both alive and breathing living men.

"Are my eyes tricking me?"

She was dumped in a whirlpool of chaos. This halted her advance for a good time. The golden eyes of hers has the ability to discern if it is a ghost or a living person in front of her. Yet today, she saw a human with the presence of the dead lingering around him. And besides, that man appeared to be a normal individual.

That never happened before. Even their nemesis, the dark practitioners are still humans that breathes and eats.

That man is one of a kind. Hikari wanted to be sure and looked around. Only to be disappointed and regret it. She was deeply submerged in her world of thoughts that she failed to notice those two strange men are long gone.

"I've gotta ask father about this."

Left with no choice, Hikari could only ask someone she knows has an answer.

This little episode in the everyday events on this park would soon become a real disaster for Lon. If he knew that, he would just obediently hole up in his room.
