Adventurer?

"Really? an adventurer's guild?" Ghost was looking at his quest with a deadpanned look. "Well let's go there i suppose", He said to himself as he began to walk out of the training yard and fort. Once in the city, the same sight he saw when he first teleported here greeted him. People running, others selling and guards patrolling.

In the distance, he could see a big building full of people, a lot of them were players and some of them were NPC's. "Guess that's the adventurer's guild." He made his way inside the building and walked toward the counter. A woman with black hair and glasses was filling papers and giving mission to different adventurer.

The woman looked up for a moment and saw him. "Hello, are you here to register?" Ghost only nodded. "Okay, let me explain how the guild works first. Once you are registered as an adventurer, you'll be a rank E adventurer. Then, by doing mission you can upgrade your rank until you reach the highest rank, which is rank Myth. the rank are as follows: E, D, C, B, A, S, Legend and Myth. There is currently no adventurer in the world who is at rank Myth."

Ghost Understood the ranking, and guessed that the rank of weapons were the same. But he was still confused of the Legacy rank of his curse. "The adventurer's guild is neutral, but that doesn't mean there are no faction inside it. You will have to choose between all the factions and you will probably be part of that faction for life."

As soon as ghost heard that, he didn't like it. "Does that mean i will have to pay something to that faction?"

"Yes, they will help you train but nothing is free in this world." Ghost began to look around him and saw people giving bags of gold for only a small book, probably a skill, or sometime for a weapon or armor parts. "As much as i agree with what you just said, I think you won't need me here." After finishing what he had to say, he began to leave.

"If you do not register as an adventurer, you will not be protected agaisnt other adventurers. Whatever happens is not our concern and you will receive no missions from the guild." Ghost stopped in his track and looked back. The sudden outburst of the woman attracted the attention of most of the adventurers inside the building.

"If that means I am not a slave, then so be it." His cold voice made the woman shiver. Some adventurers around began to snicker while they were whispering insults. Ghost didn't pay them any mind and just left the guild.

reward: Wanderer's Token (???), Skill book: Survivor, 10000 exp

As he looked in mild surprise at the quest he unlocked, 'Now that's convenient'. He didn't know why he hated the idea to work for others so much but he did, he would never register even if he had to survive more than 7 days in the wild.

For the first time since he got here, he looked inside his inventory and saw that he actually had 5 gold coins. He guessed that everyone began with 5 gold coins and then made his way towards the apothicary or general store. If he had to survive for 7 days in the wild, he would need potions, food and probably other supplies.

He pushed the door to enter the store and heard the sound of a bell ringing. "Hello customer, what would you need today?" The clerk of the store asked with a big smile. 'fake' Ghost immediatly saw that the smile of the man was just a facade, after all he was a merchant.

'I can probably hunt food, since it's one way to gain experience and level up.'

"I need potions, show me what you got." The man didn't wait any seconds after he told him what he needed. He ran in the back of his shop and came back with bottles filled with a red liquid. "These are the lowest grade of potions they cost 1 gold each."

"They are pretty expansive for low grade potions." He took one of the bottle and began inspecting it. 'Even if i look at it for an hour, i don't know how they are made, so i can't tell if he is scamming me or not.' The merchant chuckled when he heard ghost. "Potions, even low grade ones, are hard to make. The ingredients needed to craft them are not that rare but the people who can make them can be counted on one hand in this city. And importing them would be even more expansive."

'It's useless to save money for the moment, and since i don't know what is in the forest, i will probably need them.' Ghost took his 5 gold coins from his inventory and put them on the wooden desk. The merchant silently took the 5 coins and handed ghost his 5 potions.

When ghost left the shop, he saw Cauldr waiting right next to the door. He began to walk in the direction of the city's gate and Cauldr followed him. "Tell me, why did you refuse to register?" Ghost wasn't surprised by the question, every other player like him registered but he didn't.

"Quite simple really, I just didn't want to be someone's slave. If i have to work for someone, it's better if that someone is me." Ghost and Cauldr reached to gate and they both stopped and looked at the forest beyond the gate. "Do you even know what's out there?"

"no" Cauldr wasn't surprised by the coldness in his voice, he already heard it when he tested him. What surprised was that there wasn't any trace of fear on Ghost's face. It was like he didn't even care what could happen to him inside the forest. "I know you all are immortal, which is still quite a shock. But even then, what's inside the forest... Not all things in this forest are natural."

The reasons why Cauldr knew the player were immortal is because a lot of them caused trouble when they first arrived. Some even had to be killed, but they kept coming back, at first a lot of them thought of black magic, so mages were called. Some of the players were even taken as test subject but what Cauldr doesn't know is that for them, it's a game with quests.

"Then i'll just have to be the one walking out of the forest alive." Cauldr had a weird smile, and began to walk away while waving his arm. "Good luck then."

Ghost decided to log out for now, before entering the forest. He's already been playing for an hour.

------------------------------

When Ethan woke up, he was still on his couch. He sat up and put away the glasses, and he tried to take off the chip on his neck. Key word: tried. He couldn't, as much as he tried, it wouldn't come off. he decided to take care of it later, maybe some people would have the same problem.

He got up from his couch and looked at the time, he was confused and looked at all the other clock inside his flat. he finished installing the game at 5:00 and now it is currently not 6:00 after he played an hour, but 5:10.

He slowly walked toward his couch where the manual of the game was, and took it. He flipped the pages for a minute or two and finally found an explanation. The time in game is 6 time faster than real life, 1 day outside is 6 day inside. As mush as Ethan didn't care about a lot of things, he was still interested in how they could make it work. But right now, there's nothing he could do to satisfy his curiosity.

'I'll make myself a tea' Ethan decided to log in after a little break. Fortunately, today was saturday, so no work for 2 days, he could and would make the most out of these two days. Since some people began to play directly at the start of the game, at midnight, one could say he was 5 hours late.

After finishing his tea, Ethan layed down on his couch and logged in.

He appeared right where he left, just outside the city's gate and he looked at the forest. Giant trees everywhere, they were, at least, 50 meters tall. He noticed the sun setting right behind the forest. 'It is almost night.' Ghost started walking without looking back.

"When the night comes, wolves howl."
