I reluctantly got to my feet and reached deep within myself. I caged my wolf and pulled the human part of myself to the surface. The transformation to human was fast but a bit painful. This new form felt unnatural and strange.
James had a stunned expression on his face and got to his feet. He took his jacket off and put it around me. I flexed my hands and then my toes. This body felt so different after all this time. I looked down and my new body was covered in mud. I must look ridiculous and that's why he gave me his jacket. I put my arms through the sleeves and zipped up the front. Embarrassment had to be evident on my face.
James gave me a sheepish grin and spoke softly, "Are you going to stay with me?". His eyes were downcast and I did not expect such a show of submission. This wolf clearly had alpha dominance and he was submitting to me... I was dumbfounded. Too show this weakness pulled at my heart strings.
I nodded yes and the biggest smile I had ever seen appeared on his beautiful face. He appeared so young in this moment. I wondered what his true age really was. Could I be older then him? He reached for my hand slowly and pulled me towards the way he always came. "Come on! Let's go home!"
Home? He said home. I had never thought of anywhere as really a home. A place to stay, yes, but an actual home with people that are happy. I couldn't even imagine such a dream. I hope this home is what I picture it to be.
We walked through the woods for a long time until we came up to a big green back yard. The house in front of us was enormous. It was two stories and I couldn't even count all the windows. There is no telling how many rooms they must have. A pool glistened in the back yard and I wanted to run and jump in it! The thought of a hot bath gave me cold chills.
James tugged at my hand leading me to the back door. He opened the door and we walked in. My mouth fell open at the interior. There were wood floors throughout, marble, chandeliers, and everything you expect a multimillion dollar house to have. He lead the way to a wood staircase with wolves, bears, leopards, and other shifters carved into the sides. They stood tall like guardians of a king. I had never heard of shifters coming together like the stairs showed. Most shifters stayed with their kind and avoided or even fought different ones. The craftsmanship was magnificent. I felt like they would start moving at any moment. I reached a hand out to touch a bear's paw before James pulled at my hand again.
We walked up the staircase and went down a hallway. James paused at the second door on the left and turned the knob. The bedroom was a pretty lilac color with a wooden canopy bed in the center. There were paintings hung on the walls of fully bloomed flowers. I walked in and smelled the air. There was no particular person's scent in this area of the house. It must be an extra room for guests to stay in.
James went to another door inside the bedroom and opened it. The bathroom was bigger then any I had ever seen growing up! The tub in the middle of the floor called my name. I ran in and spun around smiling. I touched the vanity and the cold exterior of the tub. How could a bathroom be so beautiful?
James went back towards the bedroom and waited for me to take it all in. "You act like you have never seen a bathroom before, Little Wolf. Go ahead, take a bath, and get cleaned up! There are some clothes in the closet that should fit you. I will wait for you downstairs". When I nodded he proceeded to shut the bathroom door with a chuckle. I listened to his footsteps making their way to the staircase and just stood in awe.
