The earth thumped with the sound of paws beating faster and faster as wolves charged through the trees. The earth shaking sound sent Solar bolt up right in his mossy nest. It'd been 22 sunrises since Luna's Birth. Today was the day she came out of the den, eyes wide and legs working. Solar's family was being chased out.
Solar had not left the border after his exile so he could keep an ear out for what was going on with his family. He dug himself a makeshift den on the side of a hill and dropped vines over the front to make it feel like home. He made a nest of moss and leaves and waited everyday for the howls of his pack mates.
Solar flew out of his makeshift den and zoomed north towards the commotion. The trees were blurs of green as he skidded through the morning rain. His blood rushed as fast as his paws and his heart thumped in his ears. Solar barely noticed the cold drops soaking through his unkempt pelt. He needed to meet up with his family before he lost their scent to the rain.
As he drew nearer the ground shook with the heavy foot fall of the pack. Solar's lengthy, grey ears twisted forward. Being an Alpha paid of as his hearing was sharper and legs stronger than the average wolf. Solar quickly out ran the pack he could hear just yards away on the other side of the border. He twisted his ears around every which way, trying to pick up Sirus' clumsy paws. Slowly his bounds grew less sure as he may have mistaken the chase for a simple hunt. Focusing so hard on his ears he hadn't seen the rabbit burrow two bounds away.

BAM!
Solar crashed down face first with a mouthful of mud. In an instant the pack sped ahead and Solar lost all confidence that he wasn't mistaken. He stood up, ready to head back, when the pounding suddenly stopped.
"The pack must've caught their prey. Good for them." Solar muttered. Dejected he began his trek back when he heard the unmistakable howl of his old beta (the new Alpha).
"Don't come back or we'll kill you!!! " he boomed.
Then in a more cheerful voice he annoced, "My pack! We have finally driven away the shadow in our midst. Once again our hunts will succeed, our luck will return! "
With that single sentence Solar began his chase with all the assurance he needed. He would find Sirus and Luna ahead if he had to track them for moons.
