Solar lead Luna to a large clearing a little pways from the den, the clearing was perfect for training.
Tall strong Spruce circled the clearing with many brambles hiding and protecting them from threats. Thin needles and small pebbles littered the ground. On the far left there was a nice large boulder, maybe 1.5 yards tall, that was perfect for observing. To the far right was a small pond, frozen over by a thin layer of ice that you could easily break with your paw. This was convienent as you could get a drink after training without traveling too far at all.
Luna scampered through the clearing, taking it all in, "Fa! It's perfect! What are you gonna teach me first!? Pouncing? Stalking? Tracking?!"
"How about we start with being quiet." Solar stepped back from Luna so he could demonstrate."
...
...
"I don't like this." Luna huffed, "When are you gonna teach me how to hunt!"
"Patience is a very important part of hunting. If you aren't patient and you pounce too soon you could either miss, or get yourself hurt depending on your prey."
Solarpondered which electric. enter he should teach first. He started with tracking but Luna didn't need to know that if she won't be tracking. Stalking would probobly help most since it teaches you how to be super quiet and undetected.
"We would normally start with tracking since it comes first but since I only need you to stay quiet while your with me, stalking would be more useful." Luna bounced with excitement at hearing this. Her tail wagged as fast as lightning and was as visible as mist.
"I know some of that!"
"Good because first things first I have to see what you know. You'll stalk this rock." Solar placed his paw on rock latter than the others, "You can start over there."
Solar tilted his head toward the pond. While Luna happily skidded through the needles to her starting place, Solar rolled the larger rock to the middle of the clearing with his paw. Solar then quickly hoped up onto the observation rock and got a pleasant surprise. There was a small patch of moss on top that wasn't visible from down low. He was pleased though as he could lay much more comfy on soft moss, rather than cold hard stone.
Solar layed down on the moss with his paws crossed in front of him but kept his head up so he could see Luna. When he was ready he howled Begin! which boomed through the clearing. This frightened Luna out of her fur but she quickly recovered and began stalking.
She lowered her belly until it was barely above the ground and began to creep forward. The first problem Solar saw was that her tail waved excitedly, high in the air. The prey would easily see, hear, or feel her from yards away.
She continued to crawl forward, not paying any attention to where she was stepping, she cracked every twig and kicked every stone.
"By goddess Luna she is going to be a LOT of work." Solar cursed silently. Finally, Luna made it to the rock and then looked expectantly at Solar.
"How did I do? Can I hunt now?!" Luna bounced in anticipation.
"That was, Ok. But you've still got a long ways to go before you can hunt." Luna turned away from Solar's eyes and started at a nearby caterpillar instead though he assumes she was listening because her bubbly smile disappeared.
"Luna?" Solar grumbled for her attention and she turned back to him in fear.
"I'm sorry am I I trouble? Please don't leave me alone, I can't take care of myself." Luna wailed to Solar with a dejected and fearful look in her eyes.
"I'm not going to get rid of you your my daughter silly." Solar consoles her.
"Now you should focus more on your stalking it can be fun but you shouldn't show it. Your small size will help you hide but not if your tail is wagging every which way."
"Ok!" Luna bounced back over to her stalking spot and crouched down readily. She started creeping forward, clearly focusing too much on settling her tail down. On her way to the mouse her legs slowly extended more and she didn't look down at all, she just glances back at her tail every few seconds. It was too painful to watch so Solar called her back and started explaining to her that she had to watch where she's stepping because the smallest sound will alert the prey back into it's den.
