Eterna city, Gym battle.

Having caught herself a new Pokémon, Ashley was glad to arrive in Eterna city. She would finally have her first gym battle. Her combee was ready to battle too, as she had vigorously trained it during her travels towards Eterna city.

Bug-type Pokémon were remarkably easily to train, as even though she had Combee only for a short while, it was already close to evolving into Vespiquen. It seems that the coming gym battle wouldn't only be benificial to her Chimchar, but also for her Combee.

She stopped by at the Pokémon centre and let nurse Joy give them a quick check-up. When everything seemed to be fine, Ashley moved towards the gym where she was happily greeted than none other than the gym leader herself, Gardenia.

Though Ashley wanted to start her battle as soon as possible, Gardenia was immediately attracted by her Shaymin and cuddled it without even asking. Shaymin, not being fond of being touched out of nowhere, unleashed its Seed flare and blasted Gardenia away from it.

Ashley was sure it had to hurt, but Gardenia stood up as if nothing happened and seemed even more smitten by Shaymin. For the first time, Shaymin begged Ashley to put him in his Pokéball as he didn't want to be near this weird person anymore.

AShley laughed as she saw that Shaymin was having it hard and complied with his wish and put him in his Pokéball.

Gardenia visibly deflated, but quickly perked up as she prepared for their battle. A referee was ready too. When they were both ready, the referee stated the rules.

"The battle of gymleader Gardenia against the trainer Ashley will now begin. It will be a three on three battle and only the challenger Ashley may substitute Pokémon. Trainers ready? Let the match begin."

Gardenia went first and sent out her Cherubi. Ashley pointed her Pokédex towards it as she hadn't seen that Pokémon often.

"Cherubi, the cherry Pokémon. The small ball holds the nutrients needed for evolution. Apparently, it is very sweet and tasty."

Ashley didn't learn much, but still went with her first choice. She threw her Pokéball forward and sent out Chimchar. Chimchar was ready for battle as the flame on back flashed brightly.

"Let's do this Chimchar." Ashley said as Chimchar nodded in reply. He didn't let his guard down, even if his opponent was a grass-type.

Gardenia made the first move as she let Cherubi use Magical leaf. "Chimchar, use Dig." Ashley shouted. Chimchar quickly dodged it by digging into the ground. Before Cherubi could even react to the first move, it was quickly thrown up in the air.

"Chimchar, use Flamethrower." unleashing a big pillar of fire, Cherubi was instantly hit, giving in major damage. Cherubi fell weakly to the ground, as the damage was almost too much for it. "Cherubi, Solar beam" Though Solar beam should take a long while, it was instantly fired, hitting Chimchar straight on.

Though Chimchar received some damage, he still jumped up and down determinded to beat his opponent. "Chimchar, flame wheel." Chimchar quickly surounded itself in fire and rolled at an unimaginable speed towards Cherubi. "Dodge it Cherubi." Gardenia yelled, but it wasn't fast enough as it was still hit and was this time defeated. Though Cherubi might be fast, Ashley's Chimchar was faster.

"Cherubi is unable to battle. The winner is Chimchar." the referee said, with Chimchar happily jumping up and down in joy at his first victory in battle.

"Heads-up Chimchar, next one is coming." Ashley said as she brought Chimchar out of his happy dance. The next Pokemon Gardenia sent out was a Turtwig.

Chimchar looked with a challenging look in his eyes at Turtwig. He knew that Turtwig was no easy opponent. "Chimchar, Flamethrower." Chimchar blasted a strong Flamethrower towards Turtwig, but Turtwig easily dodged it.

"Pretty fast isn't he. Turtwig, use Leech seed." Gardenia said. "Chimchar, dodge using Dig." Ashley said, coming up with a plan to defeat Turtwig. Chimchar didn't doubt her as he digged into the ground. "Oh no you don't. Turtwig leaf storm towards the hole." Turtwig aimed his leaf storm towards the hole, unleashing it straight into it.

"Chimchar, Flamethrower." from the spot Turtwig was sending in his Leafstorm, a giant pillar of fire burst out, burning all of Turtwig's leafs, while some of them hit Turtwig, causing damage as the burning leafs hit all over his body.

Now Chimchar, push Turtwig into the air." Ashley yelled, "Turtwig dodge it." Gardenia yelled too, but still too late. Chichar burst out of the ground and pushed Turtwig high in the air. Turtwig was sent high, making Turtwig starting to panic.

"Turtwig, calm down and use leafstorm to move." Gardenia yelled, making Turtwig calm down.

When Chimchar came out of the ground Ashley immediately orders him to use Flamethrower. When the Flamethrower came close to Turtwig, it dodged by using leafstorm to his sides and managed to change his falling direction.

When it landed safely on the ground, Gardenia made it use tackle, as Turtwig slammed hard against Chimchar. Chimchar flew backwards, but again stood up. It yelled in anger at Turtwig and he started to glow. "Finally." Ashley said as Chimchar changed shape and evolved into Monferno.

Monferno yelled challenging at Turtwig as he ran forward and planted a glowing fist straight on Turtwigs head, knocking it out. Seems Monferno learned Mach punch, Ashley thought.

"Monferno, that's enough for today." Ashley said as she grabbed his Pokéball. Monferno knew what she was planning and gave a thumbs up as he went back into his Pokéball.

"Come out, Combee." Ashley said as she sent out her Combee. Gardenia sent out her last Pokémon, a Roserade.

Not having seen this Pokémon often either, Ashley again pointed her Pokédex towards it.

"Roserade, the Bouquet Pokémon and the evolved for of Roselia. It attracts prey with a sweet aroma, then downs it with thorny whips hidden in its arms."

I see, Ashley though. "Carefull Combee. This will be an interesting battle."

Ashley ordered her Combee to use gust, followed by Bug bite. The gust hit Roserade hard, while Combee glided with the gust and bit Roserade hard. Roserade became Irritated and bound Combee with its thorns.

"Combee, Struggle bug." Combee started to struggle hard and eventually broke free. It flew up to avoid any other attack from the thorns. Gardenia didn't wait a second as she ordered Roserade to use Magical leaf. Combee managed to avoid a few, but was still hit.

"Combee, continue to use gust. While also using Bug buzz." Combee flapped its wings hard and created massive torents of wind, while a deafening shrieking sound echoed through the battlefield. "Roserade use weather ball." Gardenia said while she covered her ears.

A blinding light shone from Roserades arms as a blast of fire shot towards Combee. Combee flew downward to avoid it, but the fire still hit, causing major damage. Combee struggled as it didn't want to lose its first battle with Ashley. Combee too started to evolve and changed into and imposing red Vespiquen.

Ashley pointed for the last time today her Pokédex and heard Vespiquens entry.

"Vespiquen, the beehive pokémon and the evolved form of Combee. It attracts prey with a sweet aroma, then downs it with thorny whips hidden in its arms."

"It seems like you learned a lot of new moves too. Vespiquen, use Healing order, followed by Attack order." countless of little Combee grubs emerged from Vespiquens beehive and surrounded Vespiquen, healing a lot of the damage inflicted on her. Folloing that, the little Combee grubs started attacking Roserade. Roserade tried to fight back but there were just too many grubs.

When the damage became too much, Roserade fainted.

"Roserade is unable to battle, the winner is Vespiquen. The victory goes to the challenger Ashley."

Like this Ashley won her first gymbattle, happy her Pokémon had evolved. She received her Gymbadge and went to the Pokémon centre to give her Pokémon a check-up. After today she'd go towards Oreburgh city to challenge Roark and hopefully catch a new Pokémon.
