Struggle To Survive

A cute floating creature with enough power to toss mountains around just asked him if it can eat his flesh. Well the correct answer was no. The problem was he just dumped a ton of stat points into himself without thinking. Nero prided himself on being a thinker. He thought long and hard about helping out Raath. That wasn't true at all. He acted because action was needed. There were two terrible choices and he had to make one. He'd ask Augustus about why he spawned there of all places later.

His body froze and he couldn't breathe. His skin felt punctured by a thousand needles. The needles poured molten glass into his muscles and then moved deeper. Every sensation grew in scale but this time he didn't black out from the pain. No, his mind had expanded and now he could take it longer. Something shattered and his muscles ballooned. He opened his his mouth to yell with all his anguish. A moment later his muscles calmed down and settled into place. The black spots that stole his vision cleared and reality set back in. The pain subsided and he felt better than ever.

"Awe, you're tenderizing your flesh for me. Is that a yes?" Jacy asked. This monster was a problem and he needed to do something about it.

Sometimes, he really was an idiot. "No," He pulled the trigger and the bullet flew. It was a jump cut to reality. One moment she was in front of him and the next she was beside him. He twisted and bore down on her with the blade of his carbine. Flames covered the blade while he chopped down on her field. Light from the moon gathered around her blocking his attack. Her eyes widened and then she began to laugh.

Raath crossed the distance quickly and Jacy vanished. She appeared further away hovering in the air. He aimed his carbine and pulled the trigger. The gun felt lighter than a willow wand in his hand. It weighed less than air and he could fire and pull the lever without moving off target.

Each round dug into Jacy's hard light barrier and did nothing. He was losing rounds with nothing to show for it. Then there was the question of whether he had enough rounds to eat away at her health.

Her horns flashed and the bicorn around them galloped after them. Electricity coated their fur making it stand on end. Nero turned his sights to the bicorns and unloaded into them. He checked the threat level on his smart phone.

Nero unloaded five rounds into one and let the fire damage take care of the rest. One fell before they were overtaken. He knew they were on open ground with few trees for cover. He was lucky to kill one. Fifty of the monsters converged on them galloping with the eyes of lions. The nearest beast opened its mouth to reveal a front set of human teeth with canines. It didn't gore him with its horns, it bit into his shoulder. He felt its canines scrape against his bones. It lifted him off his feet and shook its head more fiercely than a dog.

He slammed the blade of his carbine into its side while it galloped holding him by his shoulder. The impossible strength of this creature's bite was too much. Nero looked over to see Raath running with the other bicorn on its trail. Nero was dragged to another area.

Away from the sudden violence was several filly and colt bicorns. It hit him then that he was dinner. The monster holding him in its grip was powerful, but it had been losing blood all this time. It fell over soon after carrying him far from their chase. Powerful roots shot out of the monster's eyes and they spread. Arteries, veins, and capillaries weren't safe from the thirst of his weapon.

Nero let go of it and pried the monster's jaws off of him. One of the fillies galloped up blurring through the distance. With his weapon gone all he had left was his fists. Two horns stabbed into his stomach his feet left the ground and he tumbled. He heard more movement and the others joined in.

Before the next one could get him he scooped up a bloody fist of sand and threw it in the monster's eyes. It turned its head away giving him enough time to roll over. His riffle chose that moment to finish its work.

He ran for it only to feel another set of horns smash into his side. The monsters didn't wait for him to die. They took turns taking bites out of him. The pain didn't knock him out. He crawled for the weapon. Then one bit him on the leg and began pulling him back away from it. Nero realized then that if he was going to survive he had use the dice. It was another gamble.

Nero reached his hand out and called for his partner the only thing he could truly trust. Long black roost tore themselves from the corpse. The weapon quickly reformed itself and spun through the air back to his outstretched hand. With his good arm he swung it slamming the weapon home into the neck of a colt. Heat ignited on the axe blade and burned through flesh and bone. The thick horse spine wasn't strong enough to stop the super-heated blade. The horse head tumbled to the ground and the colt's body slammed into a filly. Their bodies tangled in kicking thrashing legs before tumbling to the ground.

He slammed the but of his gun into the ground and pushed himself up. Logic demanded that he use diplomacy but when something tries to eat him, he takes exception to it. The next one was a blur but this time he could see it coming. He brought his weapon up and pulled the leaver back flipping the weapon in one hand. His carbine was up just when the monster lowered its head. The weapon fired and the monster's skull shattered.

Blood and brains covere the ground and the monster crashing into his legs. Nero fell once again while the other bicorns circled him. His left arm twitched from the slow but steady healing.
