Chapter 8

Irye wakes up to a white ceiling, squinting her eyes from the effect of the bright light. She blinks a few times before getting used to it.

"You are awake".A voice says.She turns her head to face a man in his mid thirties.Judging from the stethoscope around his neck,she concludes him to be a doctor. Her body feels weak and any movement she makes reports how tired she is. Obviously, the trauma she faced has affected her both mentally and physically.

"Don't make too much movement" she hears the doctor say."You are still weak. Traumatic effects can be very disturbing."Dr Joe explains in a soft tone.

"What happened?"Irye asks trying to recollect scenes before her collapse.

"I will call up your Grandma"Dr Joe says and walks out.

Irye sits back,relaxing on the soft fluffy pillow,confused. She focuses on remembering what possibly happened and anytime she forces herself,she feels a sharp pain in her head a she becomes light-headed. She recalls her Grandma reaching out to her while she falls. She sighs confused and angry she can't recall the actual reason for her collapsing. The door opens and shows her Grandma peep into the room.

"Oh,Irye you are awake"Her Grandma says joyfully."Ah, I thought something might happen to you.It's been three days now"Irye's eyes widen falling into a daze not realizing she's choking from her Grandma's tight hug.

"Grams,you'll kill her! She is choking"A masculine but friendly voice warns.

"Oh."Grams realizes and breaks their hug.

Still in a daze,she contemplates on the reason for lying in bed for three days straight that she almost jumps when her cousin,Gerrard taps her.

"Hey, I thought we had a new version of sleeping beauty here.I was about breaking the news to Disney."he jokes. Irye smiles nervously.Gramms hit Gerrard jokingly"stop making fun of her". They all laugh but are interrupted by a knock. Dr Joe steps in"Errm,sorry to ruin your reunion but am leaving. She's okay now"his eyes trail to Irye a bit before continuing"So...I'm gonna go now".He walks out. Gramms follows,already getting the hidden information from the doctor.

The door swings open before Gramms could touch the knob.

"Irye!"two voices call in unison. Evie and Claude run into the room with happiness on their faces.

Evie,a blonde with crystal green eyes,a pointy nose and red rose plumpy lips on her round face and Claude,also a blonde with same features as his twin sister almost surpassing her with a girlish smile.They both sit beside Irye on the bed,Evie checking every inch of her body.

"Am okay guys"Irye assures her after becoming bored with their touching and questions. "Am alright. Just can't remember why I collapsed."She complains and all three cousins look at her with worry in their eyes.

Down in living room, Gramms speaks to Dr Joe.

"I don't really know what happened and what's wrong with Irye but psychologically,she has unconsciously wiped the most painful moment she's experienced that's why she can't remember anything before her collapse."the doctor explains. Gramms sighs in confusion.

"I overheard her with her cousins before coming down after you"She tells him and with a deep breath, she explains everything she knows about that night to Dr. Joe.

"Did she really dream of killing her step sister?"the doctor asks surprised. Gramms nods and takes in another deep breath.

"I guess so since she was all haywire about it".Grams answers. The doctor passes his hands through his curly black hair.For some time now he's been working with them,he is comfortable with the old woman and some relatives. Especially with Mavis,Irye's eldest cousin. They've been close enough for the relatives to notice something going on between them.Dr Joe inhales deeply and tells Grams not to tell anyone yet about it, especially Irye. All Grams told the family is that Irye had a nasty nightmare that shouldn't be mentioned of.

"That's so true. I don't want Irye to worry after what she passed through" Grams nods in agreement.

"Okay, that's much better"the doctor says and stands."Then I will take my leave now. Call me if something happens".He gives her a court nod and Grams stands to follow him."No don't see me out, I'm okay"he smiles and steps out of the house. Meanwhile in the kitchen,Mavis who's walking out after having done her duties hears what insured between the two.

"Killing Anne?"she wonders and watches as Grams walks upstairs.
