Melancholy

Feng was in the main library of Mercenary valley, it had seven levels in total, they represented the levels of mercenaries, low, mid, high, special ops and two other mercenaries level he wasn't qualified to know, on the account of being a special ops mercenary he had access to all five levels below the two special levels.

The library had all sorts of tomes and historical records, but Feng only needed a few of these records and maps, the map he currently had only covered a region in the dark continent, so he collected a map of the entire fantasy dimension, though not as detailed.

The continents were all located in the Sea of Desolation, the masses of land were separated by the even more giant mass of water known as the Sea of Desolation. There were also some so-called "un-inhabited islands" in the sea. All the continents had their own specialties of magic and Feng was interested in them, more especially the magics that made the so-called forsaken and evil immortals bad.

He rolled up his map, placed it in his pouch next to the other maps, and went out to the mission board. He saw Eshu at the side, still deliberating on which mission he could choose that would get him closer to a good meal.

He left him be and looked towards the mission board special ops mercenaries. Feng decided on account of meeting up with nosferatu, he would pick the mission that had a route leading towards Blood God Forest. Some missions were stuff like picking rare ingredients, mining rare ores. These missions had little to no effect on his strength, which was what he was hoping to improve during the next few years.

He found one suitable and nodded his head. Walking towards the Building of Collection, he registered for the mission. For some reason Feng felt a feeling of self-satisfaction when he did so.

He saw Eshu, walking away from the mission board, and towards the Building of Collection. So he could only assume that he was done choosing a mission. He stood near the entrance of the building, waiting for him.

Suddenly a feeling of melancholy hit him, a familiar set of feelings gushed in his body, he remembered these set of feeling very well. The feelings were there when he was waiting for his team members on their first mission together. These feelings were akin to him being a small fish in a large ocean or a random brick in a factory that was made entirely of bricks. Under the hustle and bustle of the valley, he felt insignificant.

This feeling of pressure was what brought Lin Feng to the top in the first place. When he was pressurized he could advance, and when he was pressurized more than usual, he would either lose his senses for a while or make multiple breakthroughs. One example of this was when he was straining himself with multiple techniques in the Star desert, known for its energy, star crystals, and most specifically gravity. He made multiple breakthroughs there. Lin Feng was one to thrive under pressure.

He was so lost in the sea of melancholy that he didn't realize his student had already reached his side; it was only until the Eshu's voice called out to him, was he able to realize he was there.

"Ah, sorry. I was just remembering."

"No worries, master."

Following this, the master and student pair walked out of the valley to accomplish their tasks.

In a grassy patch of land. Two small figures were mid-air, fighting a giant of a wolf. The master and student pair were Lin Feng and Eshu, and the beast they were fighting was known as a Giant Grass Wolf.

The one Feng and Eshu were fighting was a Rank six beast, the levels of beasts was quite messed up in this dimension.

Magical Beasts were the base, and they were divided into ten ranks. The first to second rank were equivalent to bronze rank cultivators, the third to fourth had power equal to silver ranks. The fifth to seven ranked magical beasts had power equal to gold rank cultivators, the three beast ranks being Low, mid, and High ranks when compared to human or humanoid cultivators. And last, of all they had the eight and tenth beast ranks, this beast level was equivalent to jade rank cultivators,

The reason Feng had classified it as messed up, was because most of the beast ranks in the Magical beast stage only had two ranks to each. And only the fifth to seventh had three ranks.

He found out that it was because these ranks were considered the middle in the magical beast stage, neither weak nor strong. So these were the ranks where most beasts deeply root their foundation, and in case they couldn't breakthrough to the next ranks, they would have sufficiently rooted their foundations, enabling them to skip levels to fight those above their current rank.

From then on, the ranks became more stable. The desolate beast stage was separated into three ranks. The Lord, Overlord, and Sovereign ranks. These were subsequently the equivalent to Low, high, and Mid ranks.

The Earth beast stage was equivalent to earth immortals and the Sky beast stage which the WI's dire wolf; Chronos had reached was equivalent to Sky Immortals.

This was one of the reasons the WI was feared as an immortal even after he was reincarnated. His dire wolf was able to destroy most opponents if they were not the strongest sky immortals.

And now back to the fight.

Feng was fighting this wolf for a mission, apparently this wolf's organs and body parts could be used by alchemists and weapon forgers.

If one looked well enough, they would see a green glowing grass behind the now slowly losing, giant wolf. This was Green Heart grass, this was a normal grass, that could even be picked on the streets, little Eshu was required to pick some, but after coming along with his master, never did he think that he would find a special Green Heart Grass.

With this unique grass, he could gain extra points and advance his mercenary level a bit.

Eshu cloaked his arms with his Green Death Mana and snuck under the giant beast, doing this he shouted.

"Master now!"

Hearing this shout from Eshu, Feng held out his arms, and a few giant golden runes formed in the sky. The runes formed into a circle, rotated for a few seconds at mind-blowing speeds, and spewed out many golden lightning bolts from it.

The lightning hit the beast one by one and stopped. Feng looked at Eshu and nodded.

"Finish It."

Eshu nodded back and grinned. His green cloaked arms jabbed towards the wolfs underbelly and soon with a heart-piercing howl, it started to decay.

The green wolf turned into a perfectly unharmed corpse. Feng had told Eshu to limit his death power, because of the use of this wolf corpse.

Eshu walked towards the glowing Green Heart grass on the floor and kept it in a jade box.

While he did this Feng also knelt and begun to sort out the contents of the corpse. Once he was done separating the trash from the goods, he kept the goods inside a jade box and stood up again.

"Now, next up. Blood God Forest."
