"Madam Giggs, I would never do that! Your daughter is as pure as the most elegant lustrous flower. I only meant that white is not her colour, wouldn't yellow bring out the warmth in your daughter's eyes?"
Robins mothers eyes glassed over for a couple of seconds as if her mind was rebooting, then she smiled sweetly at Ryan as if she had never said a word.
"Of course, of course, you did you are right the white does make my Robin look paler.'" She paused, then looked at Mr Darkstone "I am so sorry sir, this is my fault I picked out the dress."
Robin's cheeks reddened, she thought that she looked okay in the dress she was wearing she didn't realise she looked so sickening!!
Mr Darkstone stared at her again, his eyes once again felt like they were reaching into her soul trying to find something concealed within her.
"She looks fine to me." He answered, after that, no one brought up Robin again, so she could enjoy the glorious food in front of her. Everything in semed to melt in her mouth, dream food was so rich and syrupy.
The conversations around her darted between work, school and Maggies and Ryan wedding plans. Every time she heard her sister giggle with excitement or fawn over Ryan, Robins stomach would lurch, she knew this dream sister of her didn't exist but she couldn't help but feel awful. She could feel Ryan's eyes on her whenever he thought he could get away with it, and once or twice she could have sworn she felt him stroke her leg with his fingers.
The moment Robin had finished dinner she excused herself from the table, ignoring the dagger glares that she revived from her mother and darted outside to get some air. The garden itself wasn't huge, a medium-size green lawn that looked wonderfully kept and in the middle a stone water fountain, with a stork catching fish as the centrepiece. The sun was already setting, with the shadows reflecting off the water, the stork almost looked real, as it waited to catch the fish in its long beak. Robin went and sat by the fountain as beautiful as it was, and how wonderful the food tasted she couldn't wait to wake up this nightmare. The whole thing made her feel appalling, what kinda person did her subconscious think she was?!
"So what's your plan tonight Miss Giggs?" A voice asked Robin spun around to see Mr Caldwell was casually walking towards her.
"I'm sorry Mr Caldwell," Robin replied once again avoiding his gaze, "I didn't feel well, I needed some fresh air."
'What is wrong with this girl, for so long she has tried to seduce me, with no luck. Then she bumps into me today, her eyes seem completely different and it's like she has never seen me before! Am I no longer a big enough fish for her? Or is she done being the cat, and wants to play the mouse?'
He walked towards her slowly, then suddenly grabbed her wrist yanking her towards him.
"I don't know what you are playing at Miss Giggs, but I am here now, you have my attention." He leant forward and whispered in her ear, "I'll play with you now."
