Chapter 3: Aftermath

Police officer #1: Now in your own time tell me what happened

Jake was nervous to talk and could barely get any words out stammering on most of them.

Jake: Well...I...I punched Lee

Police officer #1: So what was the reason for this?

Jake was silent.

Police officer #1: They tell me in there that it was unprovoked, but many of the neighbours say differently.

Jake: it wasn't unprovoked…..Lee broke into my home...well let himself in but that's pretty much the same thing.

The officer was writing everything said into his notepad.

Police officer #1: So what exactly happened?

Jake then told the officer everything that happened from Lee breaking into his flat to Lee breaking his phone and Jake punching Lee.

The officer sat there writing everything that was just said in his notepad.

Police officer #1: Right okay my next question is, why did you leave?

Jake: Well...….I...…I don't really know.

Jake looked at the floor of the police car nervously shaking his leg.

Jake: I guess I was just scared.

The officer closed his notebook, stepped out the car, and walked towards the other officer who was currently talking to some of the other residents in the building.

Jake looked up to see what was happening and was nervous and worried about what was going to happen to him next.

As he was looking towards the entrance of the building the paramedics were leaving the building with what looked like lee on a stretcher.

Jake quickly looked back down at the floor and nervously waited for the officer to return.

A few minutes past and both officers had returned to the car, the one officer turned back to Jake.

Police officer #1: Here's what's gonna happen, we have to take you into the station as you did leave the scene, you will spend the night there and answer some more questions.

Jake nodded his head as the other officer spoke up.

Police officer #2: It does seem that there are 2 different stories going on here but all we know for sure is you punched Lee down some stairs and now he is unconscious.

Jake opened his eyes wide and almost started to cry thinking the worst had happened placing his head in his hands, both officers left the car to clear everything up with the paramedics and the other officers.

After the ambulance and the other officers left the 2 officers returned to the car and told Jake that they were heading off to the police station now.

Jake and the officers arrived at the station and Jake was taken into a waiting room and was asked for full details of what happened and where he went afterward.

Jake went into full detail about the scenes that happened back in his flat and told the officers where he went saying that he just drove around.

The officers then explained to Jake that Lee's friends had all told them that Jake attacked Lee for playing music too loud.

Jake was not shocked at all that Lees friends would make up a story like that and told the officers that it was not true.

Police officer #1: We have a suspicion on that so we asked the neighbours and they told us that they heard pretty much what you said.

Police officer #2: we also found this at the bottom of the stairs

One officer then showed Jake the smashed phone in an evidence bag.

After Jake had told them everything both officers left him in the room and made him wait for almost 2 hours in this time a million and one thought were flooding Jake's head, thoughts like what was going to happen with his job and what the officers were going to do.

When the officers came back into the room they told Jake that because he left the scene he had to be held overnight and can go home in the morning.

Jake: That's fine, do you know how lee is?

The officers looked at each other.

Police officer #1: he is awake and has a few broken bones, now if you would follow me.

As they left the room and walked down the halls Jake was glad that nothing serious had happened to lee but still worried about the morning and what would happen.

The officer led Jake into a cell and locked the door behind him, the cell was a standard looking cell, a bed with a very thin blanket and mattress on it, the corner had with a sink above it, and it was a very cream room with a single-window that was slightly glazed.

Jake looked around the room and slumped down on the bed and thought to himself this is gonna be a very long night.
