Chapter 8: The Beginning

Jake woke up to the smell of burning wood and the warmth of a fire, sitting up he looked around to see where he was, it was a very large room with 8 large pillars separating it from other rooms.

As he looked down to one side of the room he could see a huge door and thought to himself that he must be inside the monastery, on the other end of the room was a huge fireplace.

Recalling what had happened, Jake continuing to look around the room in complete awe of the size of the place each path between the pillars seemed to stretch on far, Jake was about to stand up but was approached by a man holding some clothes a book and a cup of tea.

???: Please don't get up

Jake was silent he knew who the man was, but didn't know what to say.

The man handed Jake some warm tea and a change of clothes.

???: here put these on

Jake: Um thanks I guess

As Jake went to put on the clothes he noticed his bag and belongings were missing.

Jake: Um excuse me, where are my things

???: no need to worry about that, now follow me

The man walked toward the fireplace and Jake followed along still putting on the clothes that were given to him whilst also trying to bring the cup of tea that was also given to him.

The clothes that Jake was given were white robes that looked like what would be traditionally worn by martial artists.

As they both reached the fireplace the man kneeled down placing the book down on the floor

???: please kneel opposite me

Jake did as he was told and took the same position the man was in, he was slightly uncomfortable but stayed still.

???: so what brings you here

Jake: Erm excuse me

???: it was not a trick question

Jake: sorry I guess, well I don't know why I came here

???: you must have some reason to face a blizzard like that

Jake: I guess, well I guess it was something to do now that I have nothing

The man smirked at Jakes response

???: It is definitely a reason to come here, may I ask your name

Jake: ah yes its Jake, Jake Kynnersly,

Taka: nice to meet you Jake Kynnersly my name is Takayuki Uchida, but you can call me Taka

Jake: nice to meet you, so you're the man who answers the door

Taka: yes that was my job until you came along

Jake was taken back by that comment and didn't know how to respond.

Taka: do you know what this place is

Jake: erm I know it's some sort of monastery but that's about it

Taka: well that's partly true let me tell you a small story

Taka then opened up the book to a pre-selected page

Taka: It wall started back near the beginning of man itself when our founder Ezekiel drank from the holy grail and became the first to enter into the war... wait that's telling a bit too much

He then quickly flicked through some more pages.

Taka: Ah here we go... this place we are in was constructed by some of the first people to gain a power that only a select few would be able to achieve you see, the stories about angels and demons are true, well to some degree they are true

Jake looked puzzled as the man told him about angels and demons being in a huge war not knowing what he was actually listening to.

Taka: you see there's a way to become stronger than any man on the planet and to be able to get a power that was gifted to mankind by God himself, however, this is no easy task you must put your body under a tonne of stress and also be able to clear your mind to ascend to this upper level of man

Jake: Okay

Jake looked even more confused as Taka closed the book.

Taka: this place you see is not a monastery per se it's a place where we train individuals to achieve this power

Jake: so what exactly does that mean?

Taka: Well Jake Kynnersly it means that you are the next in line to train here and to achieve gods power

Jake looked stunned and was at a loss for words looking around the area more he never thought that this is what he will be doing here.

Jake: okay so let me get this straight I knocked on a door and now suddenly I'm able to get some sort of godly power, what exactly am I supposed to do with this power, fight demons?

Taka laughed

Taka: no not exactly maybe one day but for now it's to train you if we need you in the future

Jake: do I have a choice in this

Taka: of course you do we can't force the power on you

Jake stood up and pondered the thought for a while, thinking about what he had back at home he kneeled back down.

Jake: Well I have nothing to go back to, so what the hell why not

Taka started laughing not expecting such a reaction.

Taka: Well now that's all done follow me

They both then stood up and walked toward one of the stretching corridors between a set of pillars, walking down the corridor multiple doorways were leading off to other rooms.

They reached a big wooden door and Taka opened it.

Taka: this is where you will be staying, think of it as your new home as you will be staying here for a long time

Jake stepped into the room and was shocked by the size of it, it looked like a king-size studio flat with separated rooms for a bathroom, the bedroom had a huge king size bed in the middle and cabinets on either side, on the bed he could see his bag.

Jake: Hey there's my things, it's like you knew I would say yes

He then looked to the side of the bed and could see outlets.

Jake: is there really electrics in this place

Taka: of course its modern-day isn't it

Slightly laughing Jake looked back at the room.

Jake: so when you said I'm going to be here for a long time, how long exactly

Taka: well he usually takes someone about 40 years to achieve their powers, now get some rest we start early in the morning

He left closing the door behind him leaving Jake stunned and could not believe how long he said it would take.

Lying down on his new bed Jake closed his eyes and instantly fell asleep.
