Prologue

Is it true that in a near-death experience, your whole life flashes before your own eyes?

From the moment you were able to take in details as a small child until you've reached your limit to remember trivial thingsーto sum them all up in a second, wouldn't life feel too brief and unsatisfying?

I looked back to my childhood where I played with reckless steps over a field of greens. Every time when I ran around, I would stop and notice the blue sky. It was boundless, infinite, and held much to unravel. It reminded me of life. Life presented us with various opportunities and with every opportunity we had, the choice we would take laid a different path for us to follow.

And now, under the clear weather, sitting on a rocking chair, I'm glad that I could still see this same, never-changing scenery before me.

My field of vision started to dim while the sky remained bright. I couldn't help tearing up, but my closing throat blocked the imminent sob. As the darkness swallowed me whole, I let my shivering body surrender after the long struggle to stay awake.

When the cold and hopeless sensations spread through my body, before I realized, it was replaced with a cozy and comfortable warmth in a split second. Enveloping my whole body, the temperature change prompted me to open my sensitive eyes.

Everything was blurry.

"Nice to meet you, Desmondeus," a feminine voice weakly called out. I couldn't see clearly, but I could feel that she was smiling as she said this.

Then, a single thought came to me as I blankly questioned to myself after minutes of staring.
