Prophecy
The Church of Light, the most powerful in the continent of Berta with more than 3 million followers, they have access to unique individuals with strange magic powers. One of such individuals, a soothsayer was running to meet the Cardinal.
"Your Eminence I have urgent news!"
The soothsayer hastily went inside the praying room, forgetting etiquette he strode where the Cardinal was.
"Y-your Eminence! It's over!"
"Calm down son, you're a member of the Church of Light and are in the presence of our Goddess, such disrespect won't be tolerated!"
"M-my ap… apologies."
The soothsayer quickly bowed and took time to breath.
"Now tell me why you are so distressed."
"I saw the destruction of the world! Your Eminence we have at most 50 years to change all our usual practices to avoid such an ending, I beg your Eminence to-"
"First tell me what you saw!"
"Y-yes! A demon with white blazing hair eradicated all life on the planet, just her presence is enough to cause the death of everything surrounding her. Then I received a warning."
The soothsayer explained that all the resentment and hatred of living creatures produces the miasma, a low frequency energy that corrupts the body and mind, therefore is the origin of the monsters; unlike the common belief that miasma was produced by monsters and is the sacred duty of humans to eliminate them.
If the miasma continues to grow it will give birth to the demon.
"That means we're the ones responsible for that, we attack other races to get slaves and even wipe out the dwarves and goblins. Your Eminence, we need to liberate the slaves starting from our church and stop the attacks; otherwise judgement will arrive!"
"What you saw is truly worrisome, did you tell someone else?"
"No Your Eminence, I thought it was best to inform Your Eminence first."
"You have done well. First you should write what you saw, be as detailed as possible."
"Yes!"
Confirming that no one else listened to that conversation, the Cardinal took him to his personal room and waited for him to finish.
"Your Eminence I guugh-"
"We don't need cowards like you in this sacred Church of Light. Hmph, to think that we would lose to a mere demon, such a stupid guy."
Humans are the privileged race, and even among humans there're ones who are more blessed, humans are chosen to rule the world. Liberating the slaves was an absurd idea for the Cardinal, as the other races were born to serve humans, and the other humans born to be ruled by him.
Based on the prophecy, miasma is generated by the ones who don't understand their place in this world, so he only needs to enlighten them and make them realize the happiness of being ruled by him!
Unfortunately humans grew too arrogant and didn't listen to the other soothsayers around the continent, having been the first one to learn about the demon and thanks to his schemes, the Cardinal spread a prophecy that helped him secure his position as the next Pope.
'A white haired demon will arrive to destroy the world, her monsters and other corrupted races will go to war with the purpose of annihilating the humans. Is our sacred duty to show the greatness of humans and defeat our enemies. To achieve our goal we must subjugate all the races in this planet before the arrival of the demon in the name of our Goddess and the Church of Light.'
A New World
It was morning in the grassland. The girl lying besides a big monolith, with strange symbols, slowly woke up. She stayed there dumbfounded for a while when she started remembering, she was supposed to be with her parents in the jungle fighting against the illegal deforestation.
She got up and started searching her surroundings, but there was nothing except the monolith. It wasn't uncommon for her to wake up and find that her parents weren't there, but this didn't make any sense.
"MOM! DAD!"
After yelling for a while she noticed that her clothes didn't feel right.
"Eh?"
"What's going on?!"
She had a dark blue sleeveless top made of cotton with a v neck and two black straps made of leather across it, brown leather pants and short boots.
Irene was totally freaked out, was she kidnapped? She was in the middle of nowhere with different clothes and her parents weren't there. Thinking it was risky to stay there she went towards the mountains to escape.
After a few hours she found it strange, she hadn't seen a single animal, every time she traveled with her parents in places far from civilization she would see different insects every minute. Why was this place so empty? She didn't know.
'Mom should be very worried... dad is probably angry… that's if they're fine.'
'No! They're definitely fine, yeah… Cheer up Irene! Everything's going to be fine, let's search for water and find help.'
At night Irene was tired and thirsty, she couldn't find any water nor something to eat; thinking that she may be able to guide herself with the stars she waited for the night, the sky was clear without a single cloud, however the stars she could see were just a dozen. The moon was also strange, it had an unnatural bluish to it and was incredibly smooth without a single gray spot.
Giving up she tried to sleep, although it wasn't the best, the grass was even and short so it was comfortable enough; however she couldn't sleep. She was scared and anxious, without food and water she was worrying about her survival, a bad feeling was spreading inside her. Something is not right, Irene thought; was she perhaps forgetting something important?
____
Irene didn't sleep at all, but she wasn't tired. The night was short, around six hours maybe; Irene was figuring out the season and place with that information, it's probably summer and perhaps she's close to the Poles. Irene was exasperated, she was close to the Equator, how the hell was she transported so far away? She'll kill the ones who did this, she'll tear them limb by limb…
"Eh?"
At that moment Irene felt the wind, she couldn't believe she hadn't realized there was none before. Suddenly the world started to come to life, she could hear the wind, smell the grass and dirt, hear some insects and see a small animal in the distance.
Irene was extremely happy, the world makes sense now she thought. But why wasn't it like that the other day?
'Was I really that freaked out?... Maybe I'm insane?'
She continued traveling towards the mountains, she sometimes saw animals unknown to her, like a flying creature that was like a snake dancing in the air, a ball of grass that seemed to be swimming between rocks, a colorful mammal that rolled with enough momentum and started running again.
Suddenly she felt very tired and her eyes were closing from time to time, unable to take it anymore she went to sleep even though it was midday.
_____
It was evening when Irene woke up to a strange noise, a voice. She immediately looked to the direction it was coming from, there was a man traveling in a single horse with a carriage. She didn't lose time to run to him.
"OIII-"
The man noticed Irene and stopped the horse. She arrived next to him with a big smile, finally she will know where she was and will eventually return to her parents, she only needed a phone. The man was very wary of her, he had a coat made of wool and a hat, his eyes were vicious and had rough facial features.
"Can you understand me?"
Irene didn't know if he talked a language she knew, if English didn't work maybe Spanish would?
"Yes?"
Irene was beaming with happiness, soon she'll be back. The man was even more wary of her and in his hand was a small knife, noticing this Irene quickly explained her situation.
"You see I'm lost. Can you help me please? I only need a phone... water and food too if it isn't a problem. I'm looking for my parents and I'm sure that they'll compensate you for the help."
The man smiled, Irene thought that maybe he found it funny to think that she was a criminal or something like that.
"I'll help you. My village is close."
"Really?! Thank you very much! My name is Irene, what's yours?"
"I'm… Rock."
"Ehh, what an unusual name. Mmm… I'm sorry but I'm extremely thirsty, do you have some water?"
The man handed her a leather canteen. Irene hastily took out the wooden lid, but stopped herself and drank slowly and just enough to barely satisfy her.
"Ahh I'm alive again. Do you not have a phone?"
The man received the canteen and seemed a little tense.
'Eh? Don't tell me he doesn't have one! Is there none in his village?'
"In the village there is one."
'Thank God. I was starting to panic.'
"Umm… This may be strange but… What day is it? And what month?"
The man was surprised by that question, but his smile became bigger and seemed to nod to himself.
"It's Deathday of the ninth month."
'Is he messing with me? It doesn't seem to be a joke, well I have never been here so..'
"What number of day is today?"
"It's the 34th day."
'I guess I'll have to wait to ask someone else in the village.'
"Thank you."
Irene was a bit anxious, with globalization almost everyone knew the gregorian calendar, but if he wasn't teasing her, then her last option is the phone; she needs to know how much time has passed since she was kidnapped.
Suddenly there was some noise coming from the carriage.
"Tsk."
"What's that?"
" ...Don't worry about that."
"Is there an animal inside."
"Yes, that's right, that's what's inside."
"Is it your pet?"
"That's correct, is my pet. Unfortunately I'll have to sell it."
The noise was more intense, it became almost desperate.
"That's sad, it looks like it doesn't want to leave you."
"..."
The man covered his mouth and turned around.
'It looks like he's crying, I should stop talking and wait till we arrive at the village.'
Irene looked at the scenery and found more strange animals as the night arrived, but didn't ask for their species because she was worried about the man becoming more sad and starting crying again. The sounds from the carriage eventually stopped and they finally arrived.
The starless night made it difficult to see, it looked like a small village with a dozen houses at the foot of the mountains, there were some lights with the help of torches around it and one outside every house. They went close to a building where the man stopped.
"Let's go, you'll stay here tonight."
"Is this your house?"
"No it's the house of a friend, she'll take care of you."
'How considerate, I was a little worried to stay with him because he's a strange man.'
"Thank you for your help… and I'm sorry about your pet."
"Don't mention it."
The man knocked on the door a few times and a lady came out, she was very slender and her movements were rigid. He explained that I'm lost and will be staying there for the night. She quickly welcomed me and the man left, she looked somewhat annoyed.
"I'll give you water, you'll sleep in the room over there."
"Thank you."
'That's right, the phone!'
"Excuse me do you have a phone here?"
"..."
The woman left without answering.
'She's quite angry, we probably wake her up, I would be a bit annoyed too but… I feel that they're too rude, I don't know the customs here so maybe I did something rude?'
The woman returned faster that expected with a bone cup.
"Drink."
"Ehm… I'm sorry if I did something disrespectful-"
"Drink."
"..."
"Blegh… ah."
'Oh my god, I can't believe I stuck out my tongue like a child after apologizing; but it tastes awful.'
"Come here."
Irene silently followed her, she wanted to ask for a phone but decided to wait until tomorrow, she didn't want to be chased away by an angry lady. The bed was worse than the soil she tried to sleep in, however she was unexpectedly tired, she thought that maybe all the stress came out, no that wasn't it, she was scared; she tried resisting the sleepiness following her instincts but still fell asleep.
♦♦♦
"How was it?"
"She's asleep."
"Ahahaha she really is stupid, she has a nice body so she'll sell for a high price!"
"What happened to the others?"
"They died, capturing the princess wasn't easy."
"Hah~ I guess you raped her?"
"It couldn't be helped, that bitch is really annoying-"
"Stupid bastard! Our clients don't want used goods!"
"It'll be fine if we say that we were late and her guards raped her."
"Do you think they're as stupid as you?! You won't touch her anymore! It's fortunate that you found the other slut, don't break her, I plan on using her as distraction so the other idiots don't lay a hand on the princess."
"I think that she may be a beast woman disguised as a human, she seems to be searching for a special artifact."
"Now that you mention it she asked me for a "fon"? If she's a beast woman we'll get more money from her. Okay I'll forget about you raping the princess this time."
♦♦♦
'WAKE UP.'
"Hmm?..."
Irene slowly and with difficulty opened her eyes, she could hear noises outside the door and someone entered the room. She tried to stand up but her body was clumsy, she felt like she gained a lot of weight.
"Ohhh, you're not sleeping? But it seems that the drug was effective, hehehe I'll enjoy this a lot more."
'Stand up.'
Irene used all her power to sit. She couldn't think very well but managed to recognize the man's voice, it was the man who helped her.
"Now now, struggle as much as you can. There's no hope for you."
The man rushed to Irene and pushed her down, then he got close to her ear and licked her while whispering.
"I know that you're a beast woman, or maybe an elf-"
Irene hit him with her head and with her free hand used her elbow to hit him in the crown of his head. Hitting her own head helped her recover from that state she was in and immediately kicked him, she didn't lose time to get out.
'What the fuck? Beast woman? Elf? Is he insane?!'
When Irene went out to look for help she saw the lady that received her, she looked surprised to see Irene outside and then started to run towards her.
'Good she will…'
Irene saw that the lady had a knife and started to understand, she was the one who drugged her, by pure reflexes she started to scream.
"HELP! SOMEONE HELP ME!"
The inside of some houses started to light up, Irene ran from the lady towards a house, a lad and his father came out and Irene went towards them.
"Help me please they-"
The man punched Irene in the face, making her fall violently, due to the momentum of her running the punch was too strong, making her almost lose consciousness. Irene looked to the mocking face the lad had, everyone else started surrounding her but she didn't care; she started to remember.
She was with her parents in the Amazonas when some guys surrounded their car and started shooting, they were dragged out and made to kneel on the ground, she looked to the leader and he had a disgusting, mocking smile. Her father was the first one to be killed with a shoot on the head, then her mother, and finally…
"Ahahahaha, yes I remember everything now."
The people surrounding her were instantly paralyzed, they felt chills on their bodies and an immense pressure like seeing a bottomless pit of pure darkness. Irene slowly stood up and her hair became white, now reaching the back of her knees her hair started to separate itself, irregular forms went to all directions and disappeared in the air after 10 cm of distance. Her hair was ablaze.
The first one to recover her senses was the lady, she ran for her life towards the mountains.
"Where are you going? 「You all can't leave this place」 I'll kill everyone."
The lady was a few steps away from the last house in the village when she suddenly stopped, she couldn't take the next step and slowly started to return.
"Noooo! Nonono, Nooooo!"
"Hahaha that's a nice face."
Despair filled the air, the others tried to run in a different direction but the result was the same, one by one they were brutally killed by Irene, body parts were scattered everywhere. The smile on Irene's face slowly disappeared and her hair returned to normal.
"Hahahaha, hah, haa… ah, aahhh, AHHHHHH!"
'They're dead they're dead they're dead, mom and dad are dead!!!'
Irene looked at the slaughter she just did, even though it was still night she could see without any problem, all the gruesome details were clear and she couldn't hold the nausea.
"Bluergh… uhh, blu, bluergghhh."
"Hah, ha, ha, ahh."
Irene started to tremble, she couldn't believe she killed people; she tried to stop her trembling hands by hugging herself. She didn't stop trembling and found it difficult to breath, her consciousness was fading away and she was scared, very scared. Now she understood that this wasn't Earth.
'Everything's going to be fine.'
'Yeah, I have to be positive.'
'Destroy the world.'
'No. Just for a bunch of trash I won't do something like that.'
'Well, I'll wait.'
'Yes I'll wait.'
"This new world is my home now… I really hope I won't destroy it."
