Dog Bite Chapter 11

Troy was almost unable to belive his precious dog Penelope would be capable of bitting someone.

Alards other friends arrived and instantly didn't know if they should laugh or cry.

Here this boy tried to be tnd knight in shining armor and turned into the maudar instead.

One man, named Philip, had short greasy hair and large moles on his face.

He bent over laughing, he thought this scene was just too funny.

He knew Alard would be fine since the bite was practically superficial since the he dog was only warning him.

Beatrice rushed over, she had lost sight of Miriam for only a few seconds earlier when she had escaped from her grasp and now she would surely be in trouble.

The young master, was the most important child in the plantation masters eyes.

He was the eldest legitimate son.

He was also competent at many things when it came to business.

He was basically his fathers most prized possession.

If some harm came to that golden child, he would surely be furious!

Alard looked ay Beatrice as the maids face betrayed a rare change in emotion.

She looked absolutely terrified.

Miriam saw her elder brother get bitten and blood slowly trickled down his arm.

Ouch. Judging by the amount of damage done, it could possibly cause small scarring.

She was really in for it this time.

Alard glared at Beatrice.

Alard was usually a calm and collected youth with an easy going but dominant personality.

This was the first time Miriam could remember seeing her brother so angry.

Eh heh.

Deciding to try and defuse whatever was going on between the other parties involved in this, she slowly let go of the collar.

Sliding off wobbly, she still managed to land somewhat gracefully on the ground next to the large black dog.

She then gently patted the side of Penelope, running her little dainty fingers through the thick and soft black fur, while she said so softly it was almost a whisper, "I'm sorry, your legs are bigger than mine, and I just wanted you to lend me some strength."

Stepping foward a little, Miriam came between Alard and Beatrice.

Looking up at her brother, Miriam bit the bottom of her lower lip nervously, her eyes brightening visibly by a bit, with little tears begining to form in the corner of her eyes.

"Big browther, Miriam is sowwy you got ouch, are you otay?" Little sniffles escaped out from Miriams cute little button shaped nose.

Alard paused in shock. He had never hard his youngest soster say more than a few words here or there. Since when did she learn to make complete sentences? Although the pronunciation was a little lacking, she was still only three afterall. Of course it wouldn't be perfect.

Alard quickly shook his head abit to clear up his train of thoughts.

Hastely getting up, the black boy began to edge to the corners of the group.

On the other side of the Garden some younger boys and the girls, who were curious as to what was going on, came over to investigate.

Upon seeing a little bit of blood on Alards arm while approaching the crowd, Martha thrust her expensive doll into another girl her age's arms, and quickly bounded foward.

Arriving in front of Alard, she looked at the dog who was being scolded by Troy, by walking its behind and shouting at it.

Philip interjected from the side after he had composed himself again and explained what had happened.

"Miriam someone thought that Penelope was a pony and decided to mount her steed."

Philip said all this while a jubilant smile was on his face.

It seemed this teenager liked seeing drama unfold.

This is what Miriam thought of him as she peaked at him from the corner of her eyes.

'Hmm.....'

Alard looked at Martha and assured her that he was fine.

"I'm fine, it's okay. It barely broke the skin. I'll clean it up in a bit." He said as he reached his non'bloodied arm out to give Martha a little pet on the head.

This itmediatly made Martha turn bright red in the face, before she went back to her normal skin shade and exclaimed, "I am almost a lady, please maintain your manners oldest brother."

It was at this moment that Miriam was almost certoan that someone had snorted from the direction of the hedges just behind them.

So many people, maybe I should just be a baby again. My inner monologue shall keep me company.

Miriam thought to herself and subconsciously her tears that she had madd well up in her eyes on purpose, actually started to fall down her pale face.

Martha then noticed Miriam and felt a little sad. This poor pretty little sister of hers had been practically been ignored by the whole family after their mothers death.

She wondered if Miriam even remembered their mother.

She guessed that was impossible, huh...

Miriam really wanted to keep petting the dog but decided to try and keep her hands to herself.

She had acted too childishly since her new life.

Sometimes she'd even forget she used to have a life in another time period.

"How come a small child can always escape from her maids sight?" Alard said in exasperation while looking at Miriam.

Non of his other siblings had a propensity to get into danger like Miriam did, unless you can Joseph. But let's forget about him...

Beatrice still had her book in hand, and Alard itmeditely noticed it,and scoffed "Hmmph, you weren't watching my little sister well because you were reading? Remember your place please. This is the last time you'll be let off. Father expects great things for our family.

We can't have Miriam getting scarred because you couldn't be bothered to put down your book."

Beatrice hardened her gaze and bowed respectfully while apologizing, "Young Master, I am sincerely sorry. This servant was careless. This servant will not make this mistake again, rest assured."

Alard gave Beatroce the stink eye before turning to look down at Miriam who was now quietly crying infront of him.

Ah! Why did this sister of his make him feel like he bullied her when he was the one who got hurt in this situation while trying to keep her safe...

Troy scoldee Penelope and grabbed her by the collar and dragged her off, to which Miriam turned and had a crestfallen emotion painted on her little doll like face.

"Bye Bye Penelope, come again please..." The small child softly said.

Alard couldnt believe what he heard.

This littlest sister of his was obviously alot smarter than she looked he reckoned.

'I must let father know to probe her capabilities in the following years...' Alard thought to himself.

"Take Miriam back to her room, and you'll have one dollar deducted from your salary this month." Alard commanded of Beatrice.

The other children watched on as Miriam was strongly taken by the hand and walked back inside the plantation.

Miriam longing for the outside world could be seen through her teary rimmed eyes.

A boy who was about 10 spotted his half brother who was backing away amongst all the hub bub and quickly made his way to stand in front of him.

His older half brother the the black boy Miriam had given the flower crown too.

By now, he has yanked the crown off his head and hid it behind his back.

This did not escape his younger brother Jacob's eyes.

His half brother Eliah was here as his "slave servant" to attend to him.

But his father had really brought him with them so that Jacob could keep an eye on how Eliah interacted with new children he met.

So far Eliah hadnt said anything since he was introduced to everyone as his personal servant.

Jacob was aware of the perpetuated racial superiority of whites at the time, and knew that the only reason his conservative father cared about his half brother was because he was getting up in age, and only had 3 children and was almost 60.

Him, and his elder sister who was almost 30 and had only one daughter to her name since her early marriage at age 19.

Hid father was worried what if he, his legitatmite son Jacob couldnt produce any sons.

Jacob on the other hand did indeed care about his brother.

He was pretty sure he was anti-slavery not that he would tell his conservative father that of course.

Jacob was very surprised that the little girld from the Stuart family was so willing to help someone who was supposedly a slave.

It had to be known that the Stuart's had been known to be abit cruel around their area.

They would often put slaves to death for too many mistakes.

Jacob decided to keep a closer eye on the youngest miss of the Stuart family in the future.
