Startup Denied? I'll just partner with others! Chapter 15

The music teacher and governess, along with a pale faced looking Beatrice, made their way out of the room, shutting the door with a clack.

Listening with her hand cupped over her ear until she heard their footsteps had retreated a great distance down the hall.

Looking back up at her father, Miriam wanted to confirm the date with him, just to be sure her good information wasn't outdated.

"Father, what is the date today? Day, month, and year please."

This was definitely not what he thought his daughter was going to ask of him first.

Well, it wouldn't hurt to let her know the exact date.

"It is the 6th of June, 1845." Replied Stephen to his daughter.

Sparkles. Her eyes practically sparkled at this because she knew she now had ample time to put her plan into to action.

Thats right. As a baby for so long, what was there to do but plan ahead? Miriam had been planning on trying to cash in on the gold rush if possible.

She wondered if she could get her dad to believe her. And how could she achieve that?Hmm... her dad was very greedy. Maybe she should try purchasing land in Californa herself. Or could she request a 'vacation there" perhaps? Ugh!

'I wish I was older!' Miriam chided herself internally for growing up so slow. She was still abit smaller than normal girls her age.

She decided to put that on the backburner for abit.

But, maybe she could start her own brand of shovels and gold pans? Hmmm....

Looking her father in the eyes, she started her spiel about how great an idea she had.

"Father, I want to start a goods company with the money you now owe me. I my first products will be shovels, gold pans, tents, and other basic stuff. I know what your thinking, there's already shovel makers and makers of these things. However, I was in the garden one day and thought of a way to improve the shovel. I am confident that I can make a profit on this. You don't want to miss this opportunity father. If you do you'll regret it the rest of your life.

I am even willing to give you 10% of the company."

Words could not express how confused Stephen was.

Who would have thought his youngest daughter would want to start a business at the age of four?

Obviously Mr.Stuart didn't take this too heart, but since he made a bet woth his youngest daughter he would honor it by giving her the 1000$. If it were so easy to design new things at the age of four he would have a million dollars along with the rest of the middle aged population already.

She could see the mockery in her fathers eyes, and knew he wouldn't help her start up her company. It looked like she had to take matters into her own hands. Yes... however, she could very well at least ask for a few canaries and start breeding them...

Before Mr.Stuart could verbally shatter her little aspirations, she beat him too it.

"Nevermimd father, instead of the business thing just give me the 1000$ up front by the end of the weekend if possible. I have some pocket money saved up and I plan on buying a violen for myself and some music sheets. Oh also I need to try and sell off my old clothes. I need the extra income. Do we still have Martha and Danellas old childhood clothes? If so just give those too me and I'll practice on altering them with Ms. Hart. Also, if you got any of my other siblings old and unneeded clothes I'll take those too. Even trousers. I can take them apart and use the material..."

Continuing on and on, Miriam finally remembered the canary request and asked her father for her late birthday present.

"Father, do you remember that my birthday was recently? I only got 20 cents this year. Could I instead give you back the 20 cents and get some pet birds? Also I want the Piano in my room. The piano is non-negotiable."

Amazed! His daughter was already trying to manage her finances even when she hadn't been formerly taught about any of that yet.

Stephen really wanted to say Miriam was his son now.... sigh...

The atmosphere turned deathly quiet as Mr.Stuart quietly thought to himself.

If he could make this daughter of his appear bright enough, some of the even wealthier families with sons who were.... well let's just say not exactly bright, might want her to marry into their family so they could keep those unruly or less abled children on check and take care of them.

Stephen could think of a few men off the top of his head that had younger sons who due to some strange illness, their capabilities took a drastic change for the worse.(cough, victorian asrenic and lead paint galore...)

Hmmm...

Mr. Stuart decided to invest more in this daughter. He kept getting surprises from her so he decided he would just crank up the pressure on her.

"Miriam, do you like dancing? Father will go ask around for a dancing instructor for you.

I'll ask Aunt Hilda if she wouldn't mind coming and teaching you some German. I also have a friend who has a older son who needs some money, if I recall correctly he knows Italian. You'll be learning German and Italian from now on. Along with French from Ms.Hart.

I'll get the housekeeper to talk to Beatrice about becoming your personal maid servant."

Miriams little face twitced a little.

'Jeez why don't you just add Latin, Russian, and Swiss onto that order! If I hadn't studied German and Chinese in college I'd probably be in big trouble...."

"Also, I'll about getting you a pet bird. I was going to get you a pet dog soon anyway. I'll call the others back into the room. Just a warning, you shouldn't show off so much in public. A lady should be bashful and demure."

Mr.Stuart then walked to the door, opened it, and left the room.

The door shut with a clack.

'Hmph. Already planning on getting her a pet?'

Well he would never guess that there was already a pet in the room.

She heard her father call for a servant outside the door, so she didn't have much time

Taking a peek inside her dress pocket, there sat a small snake with a distinct ring pattern around its neck.

A ring necked snake, who had cute little beady eyes and a adorable petitie tongue.

Yes, Miriam Stuart had found a ring necked snake about a month ago, and made it her pet.

The poor thing had almost been eaten by a fox! Luckily our brave Miriam confronted the fox and it dropped the snake.

Of course, Beatrice never noticed this incident cause she was reading.

Good ol Beatrice, Miriam decided she was definitely the best servant in the house hold.

Samantha was the snakes name, luckily Miriam remembered in medical school they had once dissected a snake and she had at that time learned how to differentiate between the two sexs of the reptile.
