The Debut (2)

"Finally." Marco pushed off the wall across my doorway with an annoyed expression. "You take forever to get ready."

"Of course I do. Especially when it's a special occasion." I breezed past him on my way to the elevator, pressing the call button for the ground floor with a delighted little hum. Marco sidled up to me and surveyed me from head to toe, narrowing his eyes in suspicion.

"You seem to be in a very good mood tonight."

"Do I?"

"What are you planning?"

"What makes you think I'm planning anything?" The elevator opened and we stepped inside.

Marco pressed the button for the ground floor before turning to look at me. "You haven't called me anything insulting all day. And you've been humming."

"Have I?"

The doors opened and we both stepped out, making our way toward the blacked out, awaiting vehicle that was parked out front for us. I tried to ignore the stares of those who saw us, but even then, the whispers and looks were making me feel a little apprehensive.
