The Defenseless Mage (Tags - Overpowered)

In another timeline, science wasn't the only thing that was discovered. Magic was also discovered! And has been for a long time.

For a long time only one thing mattered in the pursuit of the strongest magic. And that is "Talent/Affinity". Talent determining how fast you can understand and cultivate magic.

Everyone has a talent for magic. And it can be divided to D, C, B, A, S and S+. To measure in terms of grades, if D grade has 1x speed of talent. D- would have 0.75x speed of talent. While D+ would have 1.25x speed of talent. Meaning D- is 75% of D's talent. And D+ have a 125% of D's talent. A difference of 25%. And C grade would have 200% of D's talent.

While if D has 1x the talent, C would have 2x, B would have 4x, A would have 8x, S would have 24x, and S+ would have 240x of D's talent. (Take note that from A to S is a 3x multiplier, while S to S+ is a 10x multiplier).

However, 1000 years ago, after countless years of magic existence. A breakthrough has been discovered. Making the saying "You only need talent to succeed" to change to. "You need talent to succeed safely."

Because... They found a flaw with the human body. The human body is more of a natural resistor to magic. While it is true that base talent can't be the same when someone is born. But you can change your talent.

For reference, everyone is born with 100 defense. This resistance actually decrease possible magic damage to the body, as magic is related to the spirit. The body acts as a natural barrier. But if you refine your body to a level similar to your spirit, your natural resistance against magic decreases, while this increase of the damage taken by magic effects. It also boosts healing, and more important. Affinity! Since your body isn't hindering the magic as much.

It has been calculated that. For every 10 defense that a person sacrifice, they gain a 2x boost to their original talent level.

Meaning if you have a D Talent, you can sacrfice all your defense, you have a talent nearing S class.

However, the same works for defense. For example, if you sacrifice your 10 defense, your damage taken by magic increases by 2x. Meaning if you sacrifice all your defense, each damage you take is 20x of a normal person with the same talent.

Ok enough explaining. This isn't a short story about it. This short story is instead about Mo Chen. (Author's Note: Split Path 1)

Magic School is compulsory, however expensive. This has led to Mo Chen's parents, who wasn't wealthy to begin with, to go broke and indebt.

After 16 years of countless practical torture, the only hope left for Mo Chen is for at least a D+ Grade Talent. (Author's Note: Split Path 2)

D+ allowing him to enter university and at least gain a career in the future.

However, as if heaven's was mocking him, it turns out Mo Chen had a D Grade talent.

Even before anytime has passed. The school kicked him out after giving him a D Grade healing spell scroll. The scroll was only necessary by the government due to the complaints regarding how unfair and expensive school is.

The moment Mo Chen woke up from his depression slumber. Instead of reading the scroll, he rushed home only to be greeted by his dying parents. Whom were beaten by the mafia whom they were indebted to.

Mo Chen at this moment thought of countless possibilities. 1) He could carry them to the nearest hospital. But that would take too long. 2) He could call a instant teleportation doctor. But he can't due to no money. 3) He could learn the healing spell to mitigate the life-threatening aspects and carry them to the hospital. But his talent is too low.

Unless... Mo Chen at this moment resolutely forcefully started refining his body. His plan is simple. And that is to lose all his defenses. Only a talent close to S can learn a healing spell fast enough while having some time to master the wind naturally to speed things up when running to the hospital.

There is another reason why no one ever refines their body. And that is the pain, the higher your cultivation in magic the more backlash the pain is. Mo Chen is lucky in the aspect that he hasn't started, hence his body's acclimation to magic isn't high. But the pain is still indescribable. It's like a male were to be bathing in a cold shower and suddenly someone splashed boiling water on a certain private area, before kicking it. And that is a fraction of the pain Mo Chen is feeling.

A minute later, despite his body is still refining, Mo Chen opened his eyes and started reading the scroll.

Another minute later, Mo Chen mastered the scroll and healed his parents.

Another yet minute later, he is running to the hospital.

At the fourth minute, he mastered wind boosting and entered the hospital bringing his parents to the nearest doctor that is on standby. (The Doctor knew that this would happen every year and had many on standby.)

At the fifth minute, seeing his parents recovering to a manageable start, Mo Chen fainted...

How will a person born from being forced to shed his skin go against the magic world that forced him?

Plot

1) Mo Chen is actually a reincarnated person, that's why his magic won't be as effective afterwards. As it wasn't for desperation would he unlock so much of his potential.

Split Paths

I had 3 ideas for the split paths. But I only written one. 1) Being the one you seen.

2) Mo Chen had S+ talent but was forced to sacrifice all 100 defense to save his parents. As someone wanted to kill him due to his talent and potential. But I think you guys have all read this type of overpowered novela already so nah.

3) Gaining defense. (Yes, in the latter part of this superifical story, you can gain defense instead of sacrificing. There is mainly two paths to defense, one is to sacrifice, while the other is to gain. Obviously if you sacrifice you can't gain, vice versa.) Mo Chen could sacrifice all his talent. (100 defense gain = magical talent) Which would also mean 20x magic resistance.

Side Story Plot

1. Possibly characters with internal defense sacrifice/selective sacrifice. Sacrifice only internal magic defense for talent. So vulnerability to external magic damage remains the same.

Okay, finally done writing. Peace!
