A white moose, seen as a spirit animal by the Cree is shot. The hunters are murdered, then the hunting lodges burned to the ground. A group calling themselves the White Moose Clan has declared war on Canada and Spruce Bay is caught in the middle. Jim and Leigh struggle with escalating tensions between groups in town as events spiral out of control.

Spruce Bay

Leigh finished marking the projects her class had handed in on their histories. They were fascinating. She looked forward to handing them back and starting on the next part of the curriculum. The science fairs would be coming up soon, so time to start discussion of the scientific process.


A knock at the door interrupted her thoughts. Leigh put down her pen and went to peer out the window. She didn't recognize the vehicle, but Anna stood hugging herself at the door.


"Hello. It's late, what are you doing here?"


"Kohkom thought she would have more time." Anna's teeth chattered.


"To finish your teaching." Anna's face glistened with tears.


"Kohkom asks you to come tomorrow to the tent. Wear only white if you can; eat nothing, drink lots of water. It is important you take your meds. Take a long shower before you come. Please." Anna turned and ran back to the truck.
