Chapter 66: A Friend's Hope

Nikay ran into Marriette and Torrance's bedroom. "Thuria needs me; we have to go, now."

Marriette looked at Torrance, he raised an eyebrow a tiny distance.

"Do you know why?" She asked, already standing to ring for her maid.

"The Rage has her. She needs me to sing."

"Run and tell the groom to get my horse ready."

Nikay bolted away.

"Not the coach?" Torrance frowned. "It's storming."

"I don't think we have the time for the coach." Marriette let the maid refasten and fix her gown.

"I will ride with you." Torrance pulled on his coat, then pulled heavy cloaks out of the wardrobe. "You can wrap Nikay in yours." He walked out of the room, setting a brisk pace, hardly limping at all.

The groomsman had both horses saddled and ready. Nikay bounced on his toes with impatience.

Torrance helped Marriette mount, then passed Nikay up to her before getting on his own horse.

They rode into the storm. Marriette pulled the hood of her cloak up and snuggled Nikay against her.
