"The Lovers Cup talks to you?" Laendra stretch out her hand to almost brush her fingers against it, then pulled back. "I've never heard of the Four being anything but reservoirs of power."
The Cup made a raspberry in Rodrigo's head and he fought to keep a straight face. "I expect it has something to do with me having handled it, even drinking from it. Perhaps also with being a sensitive."
"It doesn't talk with me." Milene sounded more relieved than disappointed. "But I wonder if it is the age of the artifacts. They've been around thousands of years longer than we thought. Then they've been separated for centuries, maybe the Cup got lonely. After all it is hard to love without someone to receive your love."
Laendra pulled a silk pouch from around her neck and held it. She took another scrap of silk in her other hand before tipping a coin into her hand. It looked like it had been struck from lead. Deformed and with the image almost undetectable. It didn't look like a thing of power.
