Chapter 79: A Beast Devouring Itself

Laendra woke with tears pouring down her face. Her mother's spirit visited her in a dream, telling her to send the Rehego to Calat. Her mother then told her she'd traveled too far to return to her body before fading out of Laendra's consciousness

"Cameto." She didn't bother stopping to wipe her face. "We need to leave runes telling the Rehego to gather at Calat. It was the Grandmother's last command." Her voice broke and she fell to her knees. The huge man picked her up like a child and held her close.

"Tis all right to grieve." He rocked her until she'd sobbed herself to sleep.

Laendra woke to the ache in her heart and the motion of the wagon. She washed her face, changed her clothes and climbed up to sit with Cameto.

"We passed a couple of wagons in the night. The word is being spread up and down the coast. Anyone who is coming west should know."

"Thank you." Laendra stared out at the passing fields.
