Chapter 44: Information, Part 1

Trey woke to the smell of coffee and the warmth of a hand in his. He looked at Red sleeping quietly, somehow curled up in the chair and still holding his hand.

"She's quite something." The Chief sat in the corner of the room sipping his coffee. "I've been wondering when she would fall for something more than her rebellion. You take care of her, Trey, but just keep in mind she is her own person."

"I will, sir." Trey admired Red again, She looked so sweet sleeping, though he didn't think she'd appreciate him telling her that. "Have you been here all night?"

"She may be her own woman, but I am still her father."

"Understood."

"Coffee?" The Chief waved a cup in Trey's direction.

"Better make it two, she's waking up." Red stretched luxuriously and Trey released her hand. Suddenly her eyes snapped open. She took in Trey and her father and squealed.

"I must look a mess!" She ran through the door.

Trey sighed. "I'll take coffee now."
