The Dorm Test

Two or three hours later, they finally arrived at the school. Once they were parked, Captain Harlow stood up and the bus went silent, "Alright," she began, clearing her throat "I'm going to be waiting in the dorm for you guys, so don't make me wait long! I'll start calling out names, Ather, Jennifer!" A girl got up from the back and picked up her ticket before leaving the bus and joining a long line at the front of the building, "Augusta, Terri!" She continued calling names, and one by one girls left the bus. Florence, knowing she would probably be last thought of a plan. She would pretend to join the line once her name was called, but in reality she would veer off and end up following Captain Harlow straight to where she needed to go. She figured that there was nothing that said she couldn't do just that, so why not try? Finally, Captain Harlow called her name, "Zane, Florence!" She grabbed her bag, and ticket and smirked as she got off the bus. She was about to get to the very back of the long line, when she saw Captain Harlow exit the bus. Florence saw her chance and crept along the other buses, trying not to act suspicious. Captain Harlow stopped to chat to some other students, before they headed off into another direction, and she continued on her way to what Florence assumed was the dorm. She followed the captain past the side of the building, into a courtyard with several tables. Soon after, they entered the building. They rounded several corners, before Captain Harlow finally entered a room with a small sign that read, 'Red Dorm'. Florence made sure to wait a minute before striding in after her.

"Yo." She said, trying to play it cool.

No sign of surprise crossed Captain Harlow's face as she spoke, "Good job, following me I mean."

"Psh-What? I would never." Responded Florence, knowing she'd been caught.

"It's perfectly fine, taking advantage of the system like that. I never said you couldn't just follow me, you could've just walked side by side with me, and it would have been fair game." She started reading names on the bunks in the room, "You're up here." She pointed to one on the far side of the room.

Florence grabbed her bag and hauled it over, "So, people have followed before?" She asked curiously.

"Only one other person thought to try. All of the dorm captains enter through different doorways, just so that people can follow us better." She leaned against the side of the bunk bed, bored by the thought.

"Oh, who else followed?" Florence asked as she pulled her bag over the edge of the top bunk and sat down on the bed.

Captain Harlow smiled, amused, "That would be me. Two years ago, I followed my dorm captain."

"Huh." Florence paused, wondering if she should admire, or fear her, "If you knew I was right behind you, why didn't you say anything?"

"Would've ruined the fun." She shrugged.

Soon after, several other girls walked in, looking frazzled. Florence recognized them as those in the group whose last names started with 'a', "How'd you get here so fast?" One of them asked, surprised that Florence was already unpacked.

"Yeah, we didn't even see you in line." Another one squinted at her accusingly.

"Well, I-"

Captain Harlow cut her off, "I'll explain once everyone else gets here. For now, look for the bunk bed with your last name on the footboard." The girls glared at Florence menacingly, obviously suspicious of her method to get there. Florence was now aware that whether she liked it or not, she had enemies.
