Chapter 22: The Thing In The Hall

A crash came from the depths of one shadow; a scream and a brief burst of gunfire. Wolf looked over but couldn't see anything. Another scream from a different part of the room meant that either this thing was insanely fast, or there was more than one. Men turned in circles with their guns held with whitened knuckles. Wolf knew he was in as much danger from their bullets as the thing. He saw a shadow in a shadow and jumped on the table to run and leap, not into the shadow, but to where it might be moving.

He felt cold skin under his fingers. Whatever this was, he didn't think it was human. It was faster than he had imagined. It spun so fast that he almost lost his grip. He held on tight even as he felt claws ripping at his ribs. There was a burst of gunfire almost beside his head, and the Thing paused for a second.
