Chapter 26: The Thing In The Hall

The Thing stood knee deep in the pool of water. It looked even more alien than the arm had suggested. Its left arm held a weapon shaped like the knife that Wolf held, but larger. It was bright green like the plastic toys that still survived in places. Stuff that might have been clothes or perhaps scales covered its torso. Where the right arm had been was a tiny bud, as if the arm was growing back. As long as it took its time. The face was the worst, eyes like a fly's were set wide apart. There were no other features aside from the slitted mouth that opened to show sharp teeth.

"Time to die," Wolf said. He didn't know if he spoke to himself or to the Thing. It didn't matter.
