Chapter 41: Flight (Part 1)

Justin stared at the old man. He tried to say something. His mouth moved, but no sound came out.

"You, Justin," Zechariah said, deathly quiet. "You want to know what all this is about? Well, no more lies. It's about you."

"No, it's not," said Justin.

"Yes, it is," said Zechariah. He sighed, as if resigning himself to some dirty task ahead. "And Ahlund knew it, too, though he wasn't as keen to believe it, at first. He found you out on the Gravelands, miles from any town or landmark. I don't know what he was doing out there in the first place. I think aurym may have called him to find you."

"What are you talking about?" Justin said.

"There was no sign of where you had come from," Zechariah continued. "No tracks. In Ahlund's own words, it was, 慳s if you had dropped out of the sky.' He knew people would be looking for you, so he brought you to me."

"Who would be looking for me?" said Justin.
