Chapter 102: Anavion Bone

Endrus led the way, a torch in hand, and Leah and Hook followed through dark rooms of the palace. Everything was plastered with dust. When she had asked to see her family, she had expected to be led out beyond the city walls to the Downs. Instead, as Endrus led them deeper and deeper into the palace, Leah had trouble reconciling herself to the realization that her family were not resting in peaceful, open-country graves. They lay deep under her feet, down in the palace catacombs.

Endrus halted at the top of a dark set of stairs leading down, deep into the recesses beneath the castle. Leah took a torch from a sconce on the wall and lit it with the torch Endrus carried.

"I'll proceed alone from here," she said.

Endrus hesitated but said, "As you wish, my lady."
