"Much of your story is known to us," the old man continued when the woman was done speaking to him. "Much more than you might imagine. But even without this prior knowledge, we could have recognized your wounded arm for what it is. You have been touched by a High Demon. Your arm is no longer functioning, yes?"
"Kallorn could have told you that, too," said Justin.
"He could have," agreed the old man. "But he did not. The current state of your arm is but a symptom of a greater problem, one that we can treat. But first, tell me this. What would you say if I told you that Ahlund has already been executed for his crimes?"
Justin felt the pores on his forehead opening up.
"Then you'd better execute me, too," Justin announced. "And you'd better do it before I find my sword."
"Oh, dear," said the old orator in mock concern. "And what if I told you we have ways of making you behave?"
Justin shrugged. "Bigger men than you have tried. But have at it, if you want."
