Chapter 121: The Well

"We call it 憈he Well,'" she said.

At Cyaxares's cue, Justin stepped forward in the late-morning sun. They were on the outer edge of the ruins of Esthean, near one of the walls of the crater. A sparkling waterfall came down nearby-a ribbon of blue stretching all the way from the jungle above to a pool at the crater bottom.

But that wasn't what they'd come to see.

Instead, they stood before an unremarkable hole in the ground. There was no water in this "Well," but something was coming up from it. A cold, invisible aura rose from it and assaulted the extrasensory perceptions of Justin's spirit.

Daemyn.

"We do not know why the Well radiates daemyn so," said Cyaxares. "It rises through this vent like smoke from an underground fire."

"I couldn't feel it until we got close," said Justin, "but, now." He cringed at the daemyn slithering hungrily through his brain.

Crave the light, thought Justin, harkening to the words of his father's letter. Flee from dark things. Resist evil.
