Leah started to say something-to apologize, to empathize, to vow to help him find his mother again-but Olorus cut her off.

"I can't imagine you've seen much of Endrus lately, either," he said, changing the subject. "Not with Hook around, at any rate."

Leah smiled. "He does act strangely around Hook," she said. "When we first arrived in the city, you could have cut the tension with a knife."

"A knife is probably exactly what Endrus is worried about."

Her smile disappeared. "You mean he fears for his life? From Hook?"

"Maybe not his life," Olorus said. "Just his dignity. When Hook was promoted up from the falconers in the south to join the High Guard, he and Endrus bumped heads."

"They fought?"
