Chapter 134: Family (Part 1)

Olorus entered and closed the door behind him.

The room, on the third floor of the palace of Cervice, had once belonged to the second-in-command of the High Guard, but it had served as Olorus's private quarters since the League arrived, weeks earlier. Its single window let in only a small cone of light. The bed was made. It hadn't been slept in for days.

His arm no longer required a sling, but it clearly pained him. He used his opposite hand to undo his sword belt and let it fall to the floor. He started to cross the room to the washbasin, then stopped suddenly. His shoulders slumped.

"My age is telling," he said, without turning around. "Only a foolish old man would let an intruder get the drop on him like this."

Leah stepped out from the corner. Olorus turned to look at her. His gray-ringed beard pulled up with a smile.

"Never thought I'd see the day when the whippersnapper who adventured with a toy sword in the gardens would get the best of me!" he said.
