Zechariah!
The name repeated in Justin's head as he sprinted through the jungle.
Everything had changed; when the Treasury ruins collapsed behind Justin, it was as if a great veil had suddenly lifted. An army of demons was surrounding Esthean. Until now, Avagad had kept its presence shrouded, somehow.
Now, Justin could feel it-could see it, miles away, when he closed his eyes-the dark auras of demons beyond count, surrounding the crater that hid the city ruins. As he sprinted through foliage and hopped over logs, he began to hear the thunder-cracks of cythraul unleashing daemyn blasts to rain hell down on the city.
Justin forced his legs to pump harder. Deception was the most consistent weapon in Avagad's arsenal, but this army had not been a bluff. It made Justin wonder how much more of what he said was true.
