Chapter 12: I Bring You Fire

Although Adam spent most of his time looking out of his window, it didn't take long for me to notice that he kept glancing at Aileen with a mixture of curiosity, confusion, and perhaps more than a little bit of fear. He kept his left arm protectively wrapped around his little sister, while Amy leaned up against him, holding her doll tightly to her chest.

After several minutes of silence, Aileen unbuckled her seat belt and turned around to look at the boy sitting directly behind her. "Young man," she said with a tone of tired exasperation, "how in the world am I supposed to be able to think with you sitting there staring at the back of my head? If you want to say something, then say it. Otherwise, make yourself useful by looking out your window and watching out for demons."

"Y... y... yes, ma'am" he stuttered, glancing away from her stern gaze.

"Alright, then," Aileen said, turning back around.

"Wait," Adam interrupted before she could rebuckle her seat belt.
