The Wizard

The famous wizard, Father Urbain Grandier, was born in 1590 in the town of Bouère in northwestern France. In 1617, he became the parish priest of the Roman Catholic Church of Sainte Croix in the nearby city of Loudun. Although a priest, he did not believe in celibacy and became quite the Casanova of his time. Using the access granted him as a member of the priesthood, the eloquent and charming libertine spent many hours alone with wealthy widows and the wives of rich merchants and city officials. Over the years, Father Grandier's power and prestige grew until eventually he became so bold that he begin seducing several of the more beautiful nuns at the nearby Ursuline convent.
