Oswald moved with a start, causing all heads to turn to him. His hand appeared from beneath the table and placed an almost identical, but larger, piece of cloth on the table. "I, uh, I forgot I had this." His face turned a rosy shade of red.
"Where did you find it?" Odo cried. "This is from Charlotte!"
"It lay on the ground, outside the manor house of Lady Constance. I forgot I had it until I saw the piece Odo found." He was clearly embarrassed at his forgetfulness.
"Why did ye not tell me?" asked the reeve.
"When I picked it up, I spoke to ye, but ye were deaf to me," replied Oswald.
"Ye should-"
"It matters not," interrupted Sir Gweir. "Ye found it where exactly, Oswald?"
"T'was on far side of the manor house, milord. On the ground, only a step from the manor."
"How did it get there?" questioned Odo.
"Could it have been dropped or thrown from a window?" asked Sir Gweir.
"Aye, now that I think about it, where else could it have come from but a window?" offered Oswald.
