Odo gave the courser a final pat and slid his hand down its back onto its rump as he followed the reeve. It never occurred to him the animal could lash out at him with its deadly and powerful legs.

"...and I think ye need to be careful. After everything what's happened." The reeve shook his head. "And if Lady Constance is behind it all, as ye believe, then she won't rest until yer dead."

Odo said nothing and looked at the reeve. He noticed the sword that now swung from his hip.

"What, nothing to say?"

"Ye think I don't know that? I go to sleep at night on the floor, in fear someone will stab me in my bed. I look over m' shoulder wherever I go, scared a knight will come charging at me with his sword out."

"That would be having his sword drawn, Odo."

"Ye know what I mean."

Reeve Petrus stroked his beard. "Would yer consider learn'n how to fight? Sir Gweir asked if you'd want to learn. Then ye could protect yerself and yer lovely woman."
