Chapter 79

Lyman Webb was worried. Things were quickly growing out of control. More and more of Mellester's men were arriving from the fields to confront his people and they were finding it more difficult to keep them under control. Further enraging villagers, he'd caught his men stealing and taking valuables from homes. One young woman was raped, two women were beaten and now at either end of Mellester, skirmishes broke out and a handful of villagers returning from the fields were wounded as they tried to push past his men to get to their families. For the present, they controlled the entire village, but not for much longer as more and more inhabitants were arriving.

The odds were changing - and not in the outlaws' favour.
