Chapter 148: Dinner for Three Part 2

She stopped outside the open door at the sudden sound of raised voices. Standing to one side against the wall she sensed a thickening around her, of danger, of malevolence, that was choking her. She peered cautiously inside and both men were standing face to face, the body language told Leah in no uncertain terms that something terrible had transpired. Leah was bewildered, and stepped back up against the wall.

She heard Talokta’s voice, slightly hushed.

“I don’t deny it, it happened and I couldn’t very well do anything about it. She had recovered from a terrible ordeal with burns all over her body and the stones had miraculously healed her. She begged me not to leave her and I took her outside for some fresh air hoping that would relax her enough so she could get some sleep. If I refused and walked away I doubt she would still be here. Bottom line is, as far as she was concerned she was with you!”

“Or, perhaps, stolen fruit always tastes sweeter!”

“Sire…I implore …”
