He would have to deal with that later. Right now, he satisfied himself knowing that he had her where he wanted her.

“I have warned you before. Do I have to keep repeating myself?”

Leah hung her head in shame and misery.

“If you want me to save these wretch’s lives or for that matter, any of your people, then, from this moment on, you must accept my terms unequivocally.”

Leah looked at the terrified men, who had practically sacrificed themselves for her sake. She then focused herself calmly, and sincerely looked into Kalvich’s eyes, “I will, you have my word.”

He paused, studying her for a few seconds. His face softened but his eyes still had a hint of that deadly red. He turned to his guards, “Release them back to the mines, no rations for tonight.”

After the guards and the men had left, he held his hand out to help her up. Facing her, he couldn’t resist running his fingers through her soft, tousled hair.
