Chapter 36: Trapped

As he pulled up beside her, Emily instantly eased a step back while she glanced at Brandsom's house.

She could see the front door clearly, the detective's car. Which meant when he came out, which he was bound to do shortly, he would see her, too.

"Get in."

No way was she getting in Harris's car with him. She turned to run.

"Emily." It made her pause. He never used her real name. "Please. We need to get you home before the detective finds out you were here."

He was right. But the woods were so close.

"He knows about Cole." It was safe enough to share.

Harris was nodding. "I know. The day you brought it up I did some digging of my own. Now, get in the car so we can compare notes. Your parents and Gerret need to hear about this."

Harris's window hissed shut.

Emily hesitated one last moment. Until she heard the creak of Brandsom's front door. She was still looking behind her when she scrambled in the front seat and belted up.
