Chapter 43: Adam's Fate

My brain stuttered, tried to fire up, stalled out. This wasn't right, this wasn't possible. I just saw him, laughing and playing basketball with his friends, spoke to him. Well, didn't manage a word, but he spoke to me. And despite Kael's attempt to make me afraid and the lingering darkness of depression I'd felt in the young man, I knew one thing for certain. I doomed Adam to a Life he wasn't supposed to live, but that Life was his. Adam couldn't die.

I must have said that out loud though I don't recall speaking, don't remember doing anything except standing there on my throne dais with my brother and my first advisor on either side of me. Holding me up, apparently, while Chaos burbled inside me.
