Chapter 96: Judged By Fate

Maybe if I'd been prepared for the assault I could have simply snapped the threads holding me tight. Likely, except of course I wasn't prepared, too absorbed in my focus on Isis, too arrogant about my new connection to Chaos and far too irritated by the Angels to be thinking straight just yet. By the time Chaos and I jerked tight the Loom's weaving and shattered the bonds holding us, we exited the threshold through a wave of darkness and slick thickness that smelled of blood, landing hard on the shore of a rushing river of lava. The heat hit me in a ball of superhot air, staggering me, keeping me off balance as I spun and tried to figure out where I was and why.
