I turned to Adam, not caring then we cut out the master of the realm. Not because I needed him, but because I needed him. The distinct difference? Power versus personal support. And I was in dire demand of the latter. He settled at once, and I wondered if he'd in fact been anticipating our combination of power, anger smoothing out into the kind of confidence I'd come to appreciate in myself. Was it carrying a persona that put such a lift in one's charisma, that squared shoulders so bravely or gave that unusual and delightful glow to the bearer? Or was I just so infatuated with Adam and yet unwilling to admit it I tried to explain away the catch in my breath and how the touch of him always made me feel so much better?
