Chapter 128: Doubting Allies

Cadence's statement should have perhaps worried me more than it did. Instead, her accusation she'd seen my former mother in my own realm and I knew nothing about it actually made me want to laugh.

Cadence, I sent as comfortingly as possible, knowing, like the rest of us, my sister in Life was seeing boogeymen where none existed. I could hardly blame her for that. There is absolutely no way, under any circumstances, that Isis could enter the Mist realm without me knowing about it. I hugged her impulsively, drew her to my chest, felt her stiffen against me. I knew it was like to not be believed, and yet Chaos chuckled her anger that Isis could ever figure out a way to circumvent both of us. It was just impossible. It's not that I don't believe you. It's that we all want to find ways to make sense of what's going on. And sometimes to do that we see bad things and bad people where they don't actually exist.
