Chapter 94

EXT. to INT. - DESERT'S EDGE MOTEL - NIGHT

Gerri was almost to her car, fury raging inside her, feet hitting the ground so hard her knees and hips began to ache when her phone rang. Snarling, she jerked it free of her pocket, thumb mashing on the green answer square. "Meyers."

"Sunshine." Jackson's irritating voice only made her mood worse. She hadn't meant to fight with Kinsey. She really intended just to make her see reason. And fuck, she'd left the file behind.

Just fuck.

"What." Gerri spun, indecision tearing at her. She needed that file back. The captain would kick her ass. But she just couldn't face Kinsey right now. She was terrified her friend was right.

No. Forget that shit. She was not a freak.

Liar, her gut whispered.

"Not sure who pissed you off," her partner said like he was happy to hear she was in a bad mood, "but we have a job to do."
